Greetings,
Over the last month, I’ve met with neighbors in East Riverside, Greenbriar, and Oltorf and heard a wide range of views - from strong support for the Navigation Center’s mission to serious concerns about neighborhood impacts. A clear common thread emerged: public safety.
I’m committed to working closely with you and with the Homeless Strategy Office (HSO) to ensure community priorities are reflected in this site’s design, day-to-day operations, and accountability measures.
To kickstart that work, I’m asking for your input. Most importantly: what would help you and your family feel safer and more supported in your neighborhood today?

Next Steps
● Listen & act: I’ll continue to gather, read, and put your feedback into action before the Navigation Center opens.
● Safety & accountability: I will ensure safety, operations, and accountability proposals are reviewed.
● Ongoing engagement: HSO will keep collecting feedback, hold stakeholder meetings, and post updates here: speakupaustin.org/housingnavigation
I believe we ultimately share the same goals: a healthier, safer community for everyone. With strong implementation and management, the Navigation Center can become a valuable neighborhood asset. Your continued engagement is essential to get this right.
Please reach out to the District 3 office with any questions or concerns.
A sus ordenes,
Council Member José Velásquez
