Ihave followed the Yahoo information which creates a special password in the Yahoo system but HOW do you put that into eM Client as it does not request a password once you have established the email address?

You will have seen the information above which I am sure works.

The problem is that you would need to delete the Yahoo address to follow the procedure which would delete all the records associated with that address. NOT recommended !!!

Deleting the Yahoo account and re-creating will just delete all the folders associated with it and re-establish them including all the emails (if it works). At the moment presumably you have NO access to Yahoo mail from eM Client , so you have nothing to lose.

I deleted the Yahoo address and everything disappeared!. I installed the address and nothing was in the folders. Fortunately I had copied the original contents so I was able to restore the original information.

I am still not sure if Em Client will operate after the deadline in October but I have set up Yahoo and Gmail so I can access my two addresses via Yahoo so Em Client may well become redundant.

I received an email from Yahoo which said that I needed to use the two part sign in for third party email systems and that if I did not install the special password Yahoo would not allow access after the 28th of October this year.

I have several thousand emails downloaded using IMAP on my yahoo account and hope to find a way to just change my password (one time password) in emclient without having to download everything again. I have a paid license.

I am receiving my Yahoo mail on all my Apple devices - phone, watch, MacBook Pro - but not on my iMac. All the mail settings are correct. I deleted the account, shut down and restarted the computer, and tried to re-add it. Using the Yahoo add button I put in my address and password and it looks like it is going to connect then I get an error message "Failed to authenticate with Yahoo!, please try again later". I do receive an email on my other devices from Yahoo that says New sign on Mac OS X. But the account does not load into the mail app on my iMac. I also tried to add the account using the "other" option - got the same error message.

Solved. In Mac Mail - Go to Add Account and Select "Other". When prompted for email / password - enter your yahoo email address. For password - go to Yahoo Security Page ( ) and Generate App Key. (Generate and manage app passwords) Use this 16 character code as password.

I'm having the same issue. Our old email provider switched us to Yahoo Mail. I've tried everything (while on hold with Yahoo for over 2 hours) including all of the above. When I add a new Yahoo email account, I can not get the account online. When I use "other" email account and the Yahoo password, I get "unable to verify your account".

Thank you randomuser and Jbokie. I'm on Monterey and this is what I did: I added a new email account and selected "other", typed in the yahoo email account name and the password that was generated from the Yahoo Security page. I typed in the password (you can copy/paste it too) but make sure there are NO spaces in the password. It will think about for a bit and then I got an error message "unable to verify account". At that point I added the username (same email account name), changed the email type to POP and changed the incoming server to pop.mail.yahoo.com and outgoing server to smtp.mail.yahoo.com. It took me a while to figure all of this out, but I was on hold with Yahoo tech support for 3 hours, so I had time. I hope this helps some else!

This worked for me, with a modified solution that also worked - I prefer IMAP to POP so that read/deleted/etc syncs across my devices, so I changed the email type to IMAP and used the following server settings:

My email account was recently ported from Cox to Yahoo. I created a Yahoo account using my cox.net address and password. This appeared to be accepted for the account creation in my MacBook Apple Mail. However, the account would not come Online. After numerous attempts trying different suggestions, I successfully created an "Other" mail account in Apple Mail on my MacBook. Initially, I entered my email address from cox.net and my password that works to sign in to Yahoo mail on the website. Of note, I have had no problems getting my emails on my iPhone mail and the Yahoo website, only on my MacBook. Anyway, this first attempt at creating the "Other" account failed but now I could edit the incoming and outgoing addresses. I entered the IMAP address of IMAP.mail.yahoo.com and the SMTP.mail.yahoo.com address. Along with this, I generated an App password in the Security section of the web Yahoo Mail and used this password in my new attempt to create the "Other" account. After a short delay, this was accepted and my mail started downloading from Yahoo to my Apple Mail.

I attempted to do this but was given the message that "this feature is not available at this time". After some searching, I read that Yahoo disabled this feature and is trying to get people to use their app. Is there another work around? Still cannot access yahoo mail via my macbook mail feature.

As many of us are going through a transition to Yahoo as our email provider I want to offer some tips on what is needed to make Yahoo email work with the native Mail app on Mac. I spent 3 hours yesterday on this and found that very few Yahoo CSR's know anything at all about the Apple OS. So in the interest of saving others from that frustration, here is what I learned.

First a caveat--the transition for iphone is straightforward and Yahoo has tips as does Cox on their web site about the transition for iOS. Just add a new email account in settings as you normally would selecting the type as Yahoo. It is simple, easy and requires you do nothing except have your username and the new yahoo password you created--should work out of the box but consult the Cox notes which does have guidance for iPhone and Android mobile users (although they try to guide you into using the Yahoo app and the Yahoo web mail). I didn't want another app--I wanted to use the Apple supplied native app on my Mac so I tried --it did not work the same way and this is what I found.

I hope this helps members of this community who are mac users. I do not believe Unix or Win users have to do this --I just wanted to get mail working again so did not take the time to explore further so if you are one just ignore this post. Cheers.

I've been trawling the internet to find a solution to my macbook mail app keep saying yahoo mail failed to authenticate and finally came across your solution. However, I'm now wondering whether you will actually see my message as I don't know if you will be notified of my question, but it's worth a try for me as it is totally impossible to speak to Yahoo grrrrrrr! I have tried to follow your advice, but I've failed at the first hurdle as I can't even delete the yahoo account. I get to the account page through preferences, not settings, so I must have a different version to you, but it won't let me delete the account. So I wondered if you might be able to throw any further light on my plight ha! Thanks in advance....

I just changed my Yahoo mail password and I am now experiencing this problem. The password works just fine on the web and iPhone mail. Generating a "third party app" provides me the error, "Sorry, this feature is not available at this time." Does anyone else have a solution?

So Im trying this method but there's a step no one is mentioning which is when you try to "generate app password" on the yahoo page it asks for the app name and no matter what app name I input, I get the response that "Sorry this feature is not available right now!" So what is the correct app name you are supposed to input not to get the "Sorry..." message? Perhaps I missed something...

I had attempted every solution recommended in various forums (including this one) related to the issue. In the end, the only effective solution was to upgrade my operating system from Catalina to Ventura. After completing the upgrade, I added my Yahoo email account to Mail app, and this time it worked successfully. And Ventura 13.5.1 works perfect with my 13" 2017 Macbook Pro.

You absolute legend!!!!!! My ancient 2012 Macbook Pro was fine until I upgraded storage and updated from Mojave to Catalina where I lost my Yahoo mail box and have been using Spark ever since for about a year. So thrilled to have the stock mail app working again, I really appreciate you sharing this solution.

I was receiving email and sending it using Thunderbird linked to my yahoo mail account. On saturday whilst away from home I wanted to access yahoo mail via a web browser but could not remember my password so I changed the yahoo password to a new one. I have changed the password on Thunderbird to match but now I cannot download or send mail via Thunderbird. I have checked the mail settings are as specified by yahoo. I have checked the password being used for incoming and outgoing mail. By default, Thunderbird seems to set the password type to OAuth2. That does not work. If I use manual config and change the password to normal password, that does not work either. If I try to reconfiger TB with my log in details I get the message 'looking up configuration' then 'configuration found in Mozilla ISP database'. When I press 'done' I see the message 'checking password' Then I get the message 'Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password'. I click the manual config box and ensure 'normal password is used'. Still cannot get access to yahoo. I have tried creating another account and still the same problem. I have also got access to yahoo mail via their app on android and I changed the password on that and it works OK. I tried Microsoft mail and I can access mail using that. Its just Thunderbird that won't work. Any ideas why please? Thanks.
