How far will a fellowship pastor go to get you to do something or
stop you from doing something? Well if it's extremes you are looking
for and you have not had the dubious pleasure of meeting Paul Campo
then let me introduce you to the dark clown of religious
extremes....mr Ernie Toppin!!!
Yes folks a man of God like this is hard to find. {outside the
fellowship that is}. Now let me put something to you. Imagine you
are a minister in a church and you want to discourage your
congregation from partaking of the fruit of the vine. What do you
do? Of course if you are going to speak with any authority you will
have to at least give the impression that what you are preaching
comes from the bible yet this is where we have a problem.
There is much said in the scriptures about drunkenness however when
it comes to complete abstension we have a problem. If anything the
bible seems to contradict it.
So what do we do? Always fear, Toppin is here. No sermon too hard
to pervert. No scripture too simple to twist. Toppin starts to delve
into the greek meaning of words {apparently he is a scholar now} and
tells us how the Greek word for witchcraft is where we get the word
Pharmacy from. Therefore witchcraft is related to drug abuse.
Alcohol is a drug so if you drink you are opening a door into the
spirit realm. Yes you foul drinkers in moderation how can you imbibe
and be saved at the same time? Repent. Repent! Don't you know
rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft! That's right. Drinking
alcohol or smoking cigarettes is rebelllion. People who do this have
a rebellious spirit. You are opening the door to demons!
This ahem...'revelation' heralded a series of frenzied attacks on
known smokers and drinkers in the church. This included a 'this is
not my voice you are hearing, it's the voice of God' style blast in
which it was put forward in no uncertain terms that if you don't
repent when God speaks from the pulpit you are in rebellion and if
you don't like it there's the door!
Well if that was supposed to make any difference to the three new
converts it was aimed at it didn't. They stood outside the door
after the service and proceded to light up. I think they found his
preaching amusing.
So there you go. If you want to discourage people from drinking
alcoholic beverages in a fellowship church you scare the liver out
of them with talk of opening the door to demons and being a
stronghold of a spirit of rebelllion.
If you are gullable enough, this might work but otherwise Toppin can
speak to the hand cos the head ain't listening!
Welcome to the ministry of Mr.Ernest Toppin. Feel the love!
