One of the strange things about the fellowship is their seperation
from all thoise whose views differed from their own. It was not just
the views of unbelievers but of all christians. Fellowship churches
did not work with others even when the opportunity arose. The
scripture, "what concord can Christ have with Belial?" and further
mentions of light and darkness and the impossibility of fellowship.
Paul was speaking of spiritual fellowship which of course makes
sense but why on earth can't I associate with non christians?
{assuming they are not leading me wildly astray} Why on earth should
I not go out for a meal with unsaved friends or go on a trip
somewhere. Now I understand that the christian lifestyle has some
natural restrictions to it. I for one do not want to go out on a
beer swilling night where the whole aim is to get mindlessly drunk.
Neither do I want to go out to a strip club. There are things as
christians we do not do but in the fellowship the only contact with
non christians was through organised outreach events. Do these
people have some kind of disease or something? Didn't Jesus say
don't hide your light under a bushel? Didn't Jesus himself eat and
drink with publicans and sinners? Could it be that the real reason
why there is such a seperation between Potters House christians and
non christians is because of a lack of love for their fellow man.
Oh they show their love by evangelising and witnessing but if God
were to give you a vision and in that vision you saw that the person
you were befriending at work never got saved would you be their
friend anyway or would you disregard them. This is a measure of your
love for people in your behaviour to them regardless of whether
there is anything in it for you or your church. TAKE AWAY THE
ORGANISED OUTREACH AND CFM DISCIPLES WOULDN'T HAVE A CLUE HOW TO
REACH THE WORLD BECAUSE THEY ARE SO DETACHED FROM IT JUST AS THE
PHARISEES WERE. It doesn't stop several other churches in my city
from reaching people with the gospel. Those churchers are growing
faster than my local Potters House. These are the same churches
Ernie Toppin loudly condemns for not doing what he is doing.
But Mr Toppin, your church is not growing! Go figure!
One day these people may just realise how much they really do have
in common with the Pharisees. Their relationship to outsiders tells
a very interesting story.
