This is an excerpt from a 1966 audio interview with the film director, Stanley Kubrick.  The interviewer is Jeremy Bernstein.
Kubrick is about 39 years old, and discussing his early film career.  Here, at minute marker 50:20, plus about three minutes or so,
Kubrick alludes unknowingly:  

  • To Rank’s Chapter One of “Beyond Psychology” and his basic premise of social psychology:   
Kubrick—“The only thing that can be learned from history is that nothing can be learned from history.”

  • To Ernest Becker’s “Denial of Death”, stated in those three words and summarized nicely.
