Hi,

I read - with great pleasure - the post http://hyperthunk.wordpress.com/2012/05/28/does-erlangotp-need-a-new-package-management-solution/ and now I have been contacted by a group of people that are trying to put together an Erlang entry for Google's Summer of Code.

Would it make sense to submit something on package management?
And would any of you be able to support students taking it on?

Cheers,

Torben,

I think there is still plenty of room for this problem to be solved yet. There are bits and pieces here and there, but here is still not a great solution out there yet.

I'll wait for Eric to weigh in as well, but yeah, I think we could definitely support a Google SOC project and associated students for it.

Thanks for bringing this up!

Hi Jordan,

I agree that there is not great solution yet, which is why I tried to put two and two together!!

Looking forward to hearing what Eric has to say...

Torben,

Me and Tim spent a lot of time last summer hammering that out. Some parts of it are now complete (relcool/rebar) but others (package management) are not. I have heard that Loic is working on something but I have not seen anything come of it yet.

That said, this is pretty important, as busy as things are I think its worth carving out some time to support this.  So yes, I would like to help any way that I can.

Eric,

Let's plan to meet and discuss this at Erlang Factory S.F.

Great - I am running this by the organisers of the Erlang GSoC to make sure that they would welcome this project proposal.

I have a hard time seeing why they would not welcome it.

Stay tuned - I am certain that it will be accepted and then I will hook you up so that you can put a rough project description in place.

Cheers,
