Unfortunately it is not listed under HP in programs. When attempting to do a complete reinstall the intaller is failing due to a critical error at 99%. The intallment is timing out / taking too long and failing to complete. Would it be something with my windows installer registry or a corrupted file causing this? thanks!
Yes there could be something wrong with Windows installer. It sounds like you received a fatal error. The following document covers many types of fatal errors. You can also check Event Viewer to see if there was a specific code. Let me know what you find out.
I have an hp pavilion dv6 (windows 7) and an hp laserjet 1536dnf. after installing the driver from the hp website, the scan function does not appear on the desktop. the previous advice to go to the start button - all programs - hp did not reveal a way to initiate the scanning application. please advise.
It is a diagnostic utility that can sometimes find and resolve software problems. Let me know what the Print and Scan Doctor says, including if it states everything is working. Are you using Windows 7 32bit or 64bit?
The HP Pavilion dv6 runs on Windows 7 (64 bit). I ran the HP Print & Scan doctor as you previously indicated however, it did not present with an option to "fix scanning." I clicked on "fix printing" and it did not run into any problems. I tried the process twice, with Kaspersky firewall enabled and disabled. Scan icon still missing from desktop.
Per your instructions, I uninstalled and re-installed the Full Feature Software. It was my 4th attempt to download the Full Feature Software and this time, it finally worked! The scan icon immediately appeared on the desktop. Problem solved!
Have reviewed Forum messages and see that this has occurred to others but I am unable to find replies or solutions that I can try. The Driver Software Window indicates "All software ready to use." If I can learn the file name that will open the scanner, I can then copy and paste it on the desktop and get back to work! HELP!
I believe what is happening, is the software isn't installing the proper printer driver. We need follow this document during the install. As soon as you connect the USB cable follow the steps to update the printer driver before you get the error. A Fatal Error Displays During Software Installation.
Go to start, computer, right click on the CD for the printer installation and left click on open.
Open the setup folder, product folder, and then Scan_App folder.....HPScanLJM.....msi -
right click and select install or you might just be able to just double click on the hpscan.exe to extract the files.
Then Go to start, computer, c:, program files or program files x86, HP, HPljm1530 mfp series, bin, look for hpscan.exe and right click and send to desktop. This will create a shortcut on the desktop again.
Usually when you get the time out error, you would do these steps in the document, right after connecting the USB cable. A Fatal Error Displays During Software Installation. After this is done the installation should continue.
BTW, during my most recent effort to re-install I received a window named "Driver Software Installation." Each of the 6 files list, including HP LJ M1530MFP Series Scan was marked "ready to use." However, when I looked in C;\ProgramFiles\HP\HPLJM1530MFP Series\bin\ I found an application named HP Scan. I did not try clicking on it.
It might be named HP Scan instead of hpscan.exe. You might have to try a couple different ones listed in the path while going to start, computer, c:, program files or program files x86, HP, HPljm1530 mfp series, bin.
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor if the issue persists. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
I traced it to its location which was in c:\Users\CMT (my initials). There is nothing else in that folder that relates to HP. I double clicked on it and a window appeared indictaing that there was no prpogram associated with the file so it could not be opened. I looked at the programs suggested but none of them made any sense.
I can easily copy and paste it somewhere in the downloaded HP Program if I just knew where to paste it. Please keep in mind that there is no indication (at least to me) that what has been downloaded has been installed.
I then moved to your suggestion #2. Again, I followed directions without a problem until your last item, D/L the drivers program (which I did from the HP Website to assure that I was getting the most recent info). The download installer was activated and the drivers window opened allowing me to watch 7 items in green circles load without a problem.
Then, the BIG dowload began to run. The progress bar crawled across the screen reaching 99% in the usual time. I then waited for about 5 minutes at 99% until it aborted due to a time out. I wish to emphasize that the indicator on the left side of the Installer Window clicks to the second item indicating that downloading is taking place but it has NEVER moved to the next step which is the important function called INSTALL.
I am quite concerned about this 99% cut out. We may solve this problem but I am still left with a problem of installing the software that came with the device that I paid for. Something is wrong. I have not searched the Boards for 99% failure but I will bet that something is there.
I just replaced a computer running Windows 8.1 with a new Windows 11 Pro computer, this computer has an HP Laserjet 1536DNF printer attached by a USB cable. The problem I'm having is that I go to the product page for this printer and download the full featured software -en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-pro-m1536-multifunction-printer-series/... and once the installation is complete the printer will print and a scan driver is installed but if I right click on the printer and select "Scan" the Windows Scan utility comes up and it has no option to scan to Pdf. I looked and the HP Scan utility doesn't seem to be installed, if I use the HP Print And Scan Doctor and select "I have a scan problem" it checks and then says something like "Scan software not installed, download the full featured software from the HP website and install it" however I've done that multiple times and the software does not install the HP Scanner application. The old Windows 8.1 computer had a desktop link to the HP Scan app and when I searched for that program it doesn't appear to exist on the C: drive on this new computer after installing the full featured software. So how can I fix this if that's not included in the full feature software and not available as a separate download under this printers available software?
During the install of the full version software it says "The following software will be installed on this computer" and in the list is "HP Laserjet M1530 Scan Application" which is certainly not installed:
One of the other threads that I mentioned someone says to try to download and install the HP Scan Extended software that can be found here: which does install the missing software but when you use it, it recognizes the printer that I'm trying to scan from but in turn can't communicate with the scanner:
The HP Print And Scan Doctor makes a recommendation to "Please save all your works then close applications. Remove power from your device by pulling out the devices power cord. Plug the cord back in, turn the device back on and the click "Restart computer". After the computer restart, run this utility again." however after doing that 2 - 3 times it made no difference and the HP Scan software could still not communicate with the printer:
And when I tried this, this app is able to scan documents from the printer without any problem however the HP Scan app itself still does not work saying that it can't communicate with the printer / scanner. In a way I suppose that the problem is fixed because the person using this computer can now scan but what the heck is going on with the HP Scan application and why doesn't it work properly and why can't the HP Print And Scan Doctor find and fix the problem?
First you really didn't answer my question but went and had me uninstall the official HP Full Feature Software and install printer software using HP Smart which doesn't install the same software. First to scan you have to open the HP Smart app:
Why do we have to login or create an account to scan? This is not how it worked with the regular full feature software and we don't want to do this. The full feature software for this printer has a release date of Mar 21, 2022:
Windows 11 was released Oct 05, 21 so this latest release should support Windows 11 and I would appreciate help getting the correct Full Featured software working rather than this abomination of software installed by HP Smart.
Another thing that I would like to point out is that I'm not the only person having this problem, these people also have this exact HP printer and can't get the scan app to install and many of these people have Windows 10 with the exact problem:
