Supposedly the laptop can handle those temps (>90C), but I had the same behavior in a clean install with windows, until I installed the asus apps and services on windows (armoury crate, etc) it no longer occurred and the temps were over 90 most of the time when playing, so they are handling it in some way with that software.

Notice that this is a workaround for linux for this issue of getting stuck on 400mhz, because there is no armoury crate/asus software that sets those modes (silent/balance/turbo) on linux even if we know some values (stapm/ppt) there must be other parameters that that software sets or there is an updated firmware on windows, thats why I assumed that the sdcc method gets another value/or no value at all that doesnt fit on the following conditionals of the methods that its parent method calls when there is a high spike on temps (using boost in 207, and even no boost with 208), I just added a new section with stapm/ppt values that are for only one of the modes (balanced). If you have dual boot with Windows you just need to install correctly the asus software to avoid this issue there, on my lasts tests with a clean install of windows + asus software with different benchmarks/games I didnt get bellow 1.3 and temps max 93 avg 77-85 depending on the load.

I wouldnt recommended replacing the bios on general, you should only override the acpi tables as is made in linux, if you compared a fresh dsdt generated against these version there is also the external TEMF variable removed that in Linux doesnt exist, and generates an error, but in windows could exist, that's why I mentioned that this is a workaround for linux, and also if on windows they have correctly installed the asus software this could probably do from nothing to reduce the performance when in turbo mode. Just be sure to know what you are doing and read again what I comented.

Yes it works, no more 400mhz on 208 bios version, similar to what armoury crate does, the mode changes stpm/ppt/fan speed values and I think voltage too looking in amduprof, looks like it was the value (mode) needed that the bios don't set on boot (in windows is helped with the asus services/firmware), if you dont want to wait for 5.6 you can try it in a 5.5 kernel with :

The silent mode (2), with turbo disabled and cpu limit to 1.4Ghz works better than in windows, the temps stay at (38-40c).
The turbo mode helps on temps keeping at 82-87c the laptop in high loads.

The CPU ID and the Processor number may vary. To solve this problem you need to supply higher voltage to your CPU so that it is stable when running at peak frequencies. The easiest way to achieve this is to use the AMD curve optimiser which is accessible via your motherboard's bios. Access it and put a positive offset of 4 points, which will increase the voltage your CPU is getting at higher loads. It will limit overclocking potential due to higher heat dissipation requirements, but it will run stable. For more details check this forum post. When I did this for my 5950X, my processor stabilised and the frequency and voltage ranges were more similar to those observed under windows.

Does 32 bit windows work on a 2700x and x470 chipset, ive tried twice from usb and i cant get them installed, reason i ask is i have a lot of softwares that are 32bit only and would like a native 32bit os if possible. Thanks.

Yea tried that m8, ive done a rufus usb win 10 1703 (best one) at the install screen it comes up with some error about enabling the hdd in the bios, everythings set to default in the bios, i take it 32bit windows doesnt support uefi then?

Im trying to install it on my second nvme drive, the only reason i bought it really, i tried on sata hdd too still comes up with the error above ^

I really cannot understand why this is happening, very strange, 64bit installs perfect.

Despite all the hate windows vista got, id love to have the 32bit version installed, i loved the video wallpaper and gadgets, to me it was the prettiest looking os out of them all.

Right at last! sorted, it seems 32 bit versions of 7 and 10 do not allow both sata and nvme controllers to be enabled while installing, i disabled the sata controllers in the bios and just enabled my 2 nvme drives, now all is well.

Thanks for the troubleshooting m8
