PowerShelluses a verb-noun pair for the names of cmdlets and for their derived .NET classes. The verb part of the name identifies the action that the cmdlet performs. The noun part ofthe name identifies the entity on which the action is performed. For example, the Get-Commandcmdlet retrieves all the commands that are registered in PowerShell.

PowerShell uses the term verb to describe a word that implies an action even if that word is nota standard verb in the English language. For example, the term New is a valid PowerShell verbname because it implies an action even though it is not a verb in the English language.

Each approved verb has a corresponding alias prefix defined. We use this alias prefix in aliasesfor commands using that verb. For example, the alias prefix for Import is ip and, accordingly, the alias for Import-Module is ipmo. This is a recommendation but not a rule; in particular, itneed not be respected for command aliases mimicking well known commands from other environments.

The following recommendations help you choose an appropriate verb for your cmdlet, to ensureconsistency between the cmdlets that you create, the cmdlets that are provided by PowerShell, andthe cmdlets that are designed by others.

Use the Get verb to obtain information about a resource (such as a file) or to obtain an objectwith which you can access the resource in future. Use the Read verb to open a resource and extractinformation contained within.

PowerShell uses theSystem.Management.Automation.VerbsOther classto define canonical verb names that do not fit into a specific verb name category such as thecommon, communications, data, lifecycle, or security verb names verbs.

Phrasal verbs are two or more words that together act as a completely new verb with a meaning separate from those of the original words. For example, pick up means to grab or lift, very different from the definitions of pick and up alone.

For multilingual speakers, in particular, phrasal verbs are one of the most difficult topics in learning English. To help simplify this complicated subject, what follows is our guide to understanding English phrasal verbs, including a list of the most common ones.

When used in a sentence, phrasal verbs act the same as other verbs for conjugation and placement purposes, although they do have special grammatical rules regarding word order, which we talk about below. Phrasal verbs can be conjugated into every type of verb form, so you can use them anywhere you could use a normal verb.

When a phrasal verb is used as the main verb of a sentence, you conjugate the verb part and leave the other word or words as they are. Simply use whatever form of the verb you would use if it were alone.

To better understand phrasal verbs, it helps to organize them into two kinds of pairs: transitive and intransitive; separable and inseparable. A phrasal verb can belong to only one type within each pair (and all separable phrasal verbs are transitive).

Most of the time, the words in a phrasal verb stay together. For intransitive and inseparable transitive phrasal verbs, the verb and the particle must go next to each other and should never be split up.

Separable phrasal verbs follow different rules, however. For starters, separable phrasal verbs are always transitive, so they always have a direct object. You can put the direct object in the middle of separable phrasal verbs, between the verb and the particle:

However, pronouns do follow a special rule when it comes to separable phrasal verbs: If the object is a pronoun, it must always be placed in the middle of a separable phrasal verb. Pronoun direct objects cannot after the phrasal verb.

Remember that not all transitive phrasal verbs are separable. Transitive phrasal verbs can be either separable or inseparable, so be careful of where you put your object. For example, the transitive phrasal verbs get through, come between, and go against are all inseparable, so the direct object comes after them every time.

There are four types of phrasal verbs, divided into two pairs: transitive and intransitive; separable and inseparable. A phrasal verb can belong to only one of each pair, and keep in mind that all separable phrasal verbs are transitive.

Below, you will find a list of the most common irregular verbs in English. An irregular verb is a verb in which the past tense is not formed by adding the normal -ed ending. Irregular verbs have different past and past participle forms that you need to learn and memorize.

A verb is a word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence and forming the main part of a predicate of a sentence. Remember, a predicate is the part of a sentence or clause containing a verb that says something about the subject. All sentences must have a verb, though a sentence doesn't have to have all eight parts of speech. Verb words dictate the action that's taking place, so they're necessary for a sentence to make sense.

There are three types of verbs: action verbs, linking verbs, and helping verbs. Action verbs are verbs that express action or possession. Action verbs can be transitive or intransitive. Transitive verb words always have a noun that receives the action of the verb, known as a direct object. They can sometimes also have an indirect object, which is a noun or phrase that occurs in addition to a direct object. Below are verb definitions and verb examples in a sentence.

Transitive verb example 2: Send her the book. The verb is send, and the direct object is book; the indirect object is her. Intransitive verbs do not address an object or an indirect object. It has a modifier, but not an object.

Intransitive verb example: I went outside to enjoy the fresh air. The intransitive verb is went. There is not a direct object that is received by went. Some verbs are always intransitive, like go, lie, sneeze, sit, die, and arrive. Others like eat, can be either intransitive or transitive.

These verb examples lists contain just some of the most commonly used verbs in the English language. There are so many more verbs you can use, and you can utilize a Thesaurus to find words with similar meanings. All of the examples on this verbs list are given in present tense, but the examples may be in past or present tense.

The list is separated into action, helping, and linking verbs. You may notice that some words like am, appear, was etc. can act as multiple types of verbs. When you see verbs that are on multiple lists, refer to the descriptions of the types of verbs above, and notice how the words differ in meaning in the examples.

This looks and smells a bit like homework to me! Please be honest, if I am correct and this is homework, then please make an attempt to do some research of your own and post what you consider to be correct answers and people here will be happy to offer corrections, guidance and advice.

ensear, reir and "taer (courtesy of Pablo) The first two examples were not difficult to think of or remember but I did not know of any in the last er category. I followed the link and looked at Isabella's list, Heidita's list (Snow White) and all Paralee's list but there were no examples of er verb endings. They must either be rare or not commonly used Spanish verbs!
