ErgoEmacs on Mac should provide alternatives to [home], [end] missing there

Hello,

I have just started to use ErgoEmacs-mode and it is wonderful! However I run into difficulties because I have the Apple standard short keyboard (used almost everywhere on Mac laptops and on the Apple bluetooth keyboard) and it has no [home] or [end] keys. And since ErgoEmacs (EE) removes the default bindings of C-a and C-e to beginning-of-line and end-of-line (or rather its improved ergoemacs-beginning-of-line-or-what, ergoemacs-end-of-line-or-what), I have no way to go to the start or end of a line unless I rebind them.

I suppose there is no way for EE to know whether the keyboard has the home/end keys but it could at least check for whether the system is OS X and not rebind C-a, C-e if it is. (OS X itself uses typically Command-<left arrow> and Cmd-=> to go to start/end of line but these are used for something else in EE.) Or am I missing something? (Well, aside of a proper keyboard :-))

Thank you!

In ergoemacs-mode standard theme with the QWERTY layout,  the beginning of line key is Alt+h, and the end of line is Alt+Shift+h.  If you use the reduction theme, beginning of line is Alt+< and end of line is Alt+/.

This is a repeatable/smart command.  See http://ergoemacs.github.io/smart-commands.html for a description.

I was not aware that Command right/left arrow goes to the beginning/ending of line in Mac OSX.  It can be integrated into a theme where this becomes a standard key under Mac OS X.

Matt.

Oh, I must have been blind to overlook the Alt(-Shift)-h key chord, thank you!

I believe that an OSX-specific theme could indeed help Mac users.  Some common Mac combinations such as Cmd-<= are listed here: http://www.danrodney.com/mac/

I wasn't aware of the reduction theme, I'll check it out.

Thank you for your answer and its quick delivery!

Cheers, Jakub
