The University of Adelaide and UniSA present a Canadian & South Australian Health Services Research and Policy Event: Contemporary Approaches to Workforce Planning and Burden of Disease Modelling to inform health care policy decisions

Professor Stephen Birch (Centre for Health Economics and Policy Analysis (CHEPA), McMaster University, Canada) will talk about a needs-based approach to workforce planning that has been applied in various contexts.
Professor Leonie Segal (UniSA) will talk about her research program around workforce planning, which approaches the issue from an alternative perspective to Stephen (bottom up rather than top down).

Professor John Lynch (UniSA) will start the next session, talking about the value of population-based disease modelling.
Professor Jacek Kopec (School of Population & Public Health, University of British Columbia, Canada) will talk about the use of simulation modelling to predict the impact of health interventions and policies, with particular reference to the Canadian Population Health Model (POHEM).
Professor Jon Karnon (University of Adelaide) will talk about ongoing work to develop a simulation model to provide a framework for evaluating population-based obesity interventions in South Australia.
