The main thing to understand about Photopea is that it runs in a web browser, so that's probably going to limit how much of your computer's RAM and CPU it can use. Although that might not matter if you're only using it for exports.
It looks very much designed for web developers. It seems to be missing a lot of features for other media like print and video. If you're concerned with PNG export, maybe that's fine. But its PNG export has fewer options than Photoshop, at least in the free version.
Photoshop displays text using its own Adobe composition engine, which is rather sophisticated. Because of that, Photopea probably does not display text exactly the same way. Also, Photopea appears to support web fonts only, probably because it runs in a web browser.
If this is for doing work for your company, then it sounds like the best judge of whether Photopea will work is by submitting some Photopea PNG exports to your company and see if anyone can spot anything wrong with them. Beyond that, if there's a Photopea forum on the web, that might be a better community to ask because you're more likely to find Photopea users who have used Photoshop, instead of Photoshop users who have used Photopea.
Photopea is better for having the same usage with no subscription. The difference is that photopea is free, you save things on your computer rather than through a cloud, and it runs on web. Photopea does not use enough processing for it to struggle on the web, nor does photoshop. Most people don't save on the cloud but if that's important (let's say for work), use a flashdrive, google cloud, onedrive, etc..
Hi, I have enabled Shield Down for the website photopea.com as I want to support the creator of this online photo editing tool. However, on the right tab where the ads are expected to appear, I see no ads appearing.
You may be required to create an image for your website, this could be for a header, a key message or even a news article. We have provided Photoshop templates as well as a basic guide on how to use the templates and edit images for the web.
Below you can find our image size guide and links to our Photoshop templates, they may include helpful information or be set at the appropriate size for the chosen image content type. To use a template just select and download it to your computer. You can open and use the template within Photoshop or by using the free online editing tool photopea.com
Step 4. You can copy/paste or drag your image onto the canvas. If you wish to use the guides the image must be placed below the guide layers within the layer panel. You can do this by selecting the image layer and dragging it underneath the guide layers.
Step 5. To move your image, you can select the move tool which is located at the top of the toolbar to the left of the canvas. If your image is too big you can scale it using the Transformation Scale tool, using the top navigation bar select: Edit / Transform / Scale. The handles allow you to adjust your image.
Step 8. Once saved, you can upload and use your image in your chosen T4 component. You should preview your webpage and check your design in various browsers (eg Firefox, Edge, Chrome) as well as both mobile, tablet and desktop displays.
Photopea is unique in this space. Not only is it entirely free to use, it's also a web-based application, which means you can simply head over to photopea.com and be editing your photo within seconds.
On the left-hand side of the workspace, you'll notice a toolbar. This contains the most frequently used tools in a photo editor. The fifth tool down is the Crop tool (C hotkey). It looks like a square with some overhanging lines. Click on the tool, and an outline will appear around your photo.
Now it's up to you to find the crop that works best for your photo. I want to get rid of the extra information on the left side of the frame, as well as cropping out some of the table underneath the vase.
I want to post this photo on Instagram, which allows for a maximum size of 1080 pixels wide. Click the little chain symbol, which will keep your aspect ratio linked, and input 1080 into the Width box. Because you clicked the chain, this will automatically change your height to the correct proportions.
Now that our photo is cropped and resized, the last step is to Sharpen our photo to make sure it looks its best online. There are a number of ways to sharpen a photo, but I'm going to show you how to use my favourite method, the Unsharp Mask tool.
In the top menu, click the Filter tab, and then in the dropdown menu, hover over Sharpen and select Unsharp Mask. There's no right answer for how much to sharpen an image, so you'll have to use your eyes to guide you to the right settings for your photo. Be sure that Preview is selected so you can see the application of the sharpening on your photo in real time.
Here you can name your file. In the same menu, be sure to double-check that your image size is correct, and put the Quality at 100%. Click on Save, and your computer will automatically download the edited photo.
That's it! I hope you've found this tutorial helpful. Whether you're new to photo editing or just looking for a free alternative to Photoshop, Photopea is a shockingly powerful and capable photo editor.
