There are two replaceable values in this file: %your-gmail-username% and %your-gmail-API-password%. Replace the first with your Gmail user name. That's the part of your email address on the left of the @gmail.com part. You must acquire the second value from Google through a two-factor authentication (2FA) setup process (even though you don't need to use 2FA to check email).
After activating 2FA, you get a new Google Account Security option: App passwords. Click on it to create a new app password for Mutt. Google generates the password for you, so copy it and paste it into your .offlineimaprc file in the place of the %your-gmail-API-password% value.
The high setting might as well be a deny all when something as basic as a secure connection to a worldwide serviceprovider does not function(this does depend on where one lives tho). I am hesitant to give advice on how one should configure ones network since there are different solutions out there and there is no info on the type/provider/country of the connection. As a rule of thumb, most if not all ISP boxes block everything from outside going in and provide NAT & UPnP out of the box (in my part of the world). For more complex protocols (using gmail should not fall into that category) a UPnP solution could be configured.
I'm trying to use Pine to read my Gmail. I can see new mail and send just fine. But once I read a message it gets deleted. The next time I return to Pine, the message is no where to be found. Is this a setting in pine I'm missing, or possibly a gmail configuration problem?
I personally use getmail to download the mail to a local mailbox and set gmail to archive the emails once they're downloaded to my pc. That way I keep a clean inbox but can still access all the mails from outside the home.
There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)

Below is how I worked around this problem in just a few simple steps.
NOTE: This should work on ANY linux distro, I have tried it on Ubuntu and Fedora, but I will being using Fedora for the following screenshots.
Now the last step is to tell linux to use this as your default mail app. Click System > Preferences > Preferred Applications. Under mail reader set the drop down to custom, and enter the path to the script file we just created.
My goal is to create a internal web server for a small company. I set up everything and all is working fine (is been incredibly easy so far working with this great product). My problem now is that I need to set up a gmail account with postfix and I have no clue how is that possible, Is there a tutorial available on this site? Is there any dependency needed for postfix to work with gmail?
I use the Joomla and Wordpress appliances (Based on LAMP) and do nothing more than setup a newsletter plugin then send out emails from the appliance. One client has 6,000 subscribers and sends out on average once a week. Replies are not important but we put an address in the reply to field which is a gmail account and check it when we have to in case someone decides to give feedback. You can always ignore this step.
And although it looks pretty good, it's probably a bit in depth for what you'll need to do (includes instructions on installing postfix from source, etc) so there's only a small amount of it that you'd actually need to do to get postfix to relay emails through gmail's smtp. A quick google turned up heaps of results on how to configure postfix to relay through gmail and it looks pretty easy, just a case of minor modifications to the existing postfix config.
The fix was for me to use mailx with a gmail Account profile. This way any email sent from the system will get sent through the gmail servers. Since I host my email domain with GSuite, this was an easy win. I simply made a noreply mailbox, setup 2 factor authentication on it and then used a password for less secure apps. The rest is pretty simple!
Hi,

Hi, thanks for your guide. I got it to work for outgoing emails from root@localhost. What must i do to get it to work for incoming emails sent to gmail? I tried searching on the internet but came up with nothing :(. Hopefully you have a solution for me.
Hello sir, thank you for your great tutorials, i know this is not the right place for this but unfortunely im a windows user with xampp server, i configured my php.ini and my sendmail.ini for gmail smtp, my php mail sender script says mail successfully sent, but i dont recive any thing, i tried all possible sollutions on internet but still got this problem! so maybe you cn helep me ? PLEAZEEE!
Thank you for this tutorial! I got my gmail smtp on postfix to work, Quick question which I really pray u have an answer for it! How do I configure fail2ban for postfix if I followed your tutorial? thank you!!!
Hi, I follow your instruction to send mail via gmail using postfix. However, my network is working behind proxy with userid and password. Will you help me setting up these parameters so that I also feel happy to send mail using this way.
Another case, is postfix+gmail setup is present at work machine but postfix has smtpd_recipient_restrictions enabled with setting reject_non_fqdn_sender. Remove reject_non_fqdn_sender so your (senders) IP/FQDN will not be verified.
I tried signing into google, but when I type in my gmail address and click next, nothing happens. I tried with chrome and it worked. I cleared my cookies and cache, updated and reinstalled firefox and the problem persists. This first happened around a week ago.I use arco linux with xfce. Thanks
Sorry to hear this Sector ... but are you sure that the reason is what you think it is? I mean, it looks quite a trouble for your ISP to check that standard mail transfer is originated from Windows, and not from Linux? I'm not saying it is impossible (probably), but it is quite difficult on the ISP side ... if I understand what your problem really is. Perhaps, I don't understand. Were you 10-years-old email on gmail based? Or it was somewhere else, and your ISP blocks all other email addresses except gmail email address? Can you perhaps explain in more details what was working before, and doesn't work now? (Of course, be careful to exclude all sensitive information such as real email addresses ...)
For example, I'm using Sylpheed, which is more-less a clone of the clawmail, and I have configured it to have regular access to my gmail address, along with my job email. And it works from everywhere, including my how via ISP.
Create a folder in your home folder named conky_gmail.
Put the script in there and create another folder inside the conky_gmail folder called mail_sounds.
Put some wavs inside it (here, have some of mine).
The number of new mails is the number in the first line of the mails_number file.
Personally, I have no idea what type of acct I have on gmail ... now and then I receive a notification from gmail about 'new device' which logs in to my acct, but it is always myself doing stuff ... Anyhow, I regularly connect to my gmail acct with my Sylpheed, my Android phone, and occasionally via web with palemoon. And it all works flawlessly.
