Erector Design Issues: Preamble

There are a number of design issues with the Erector codebase. I don't
want to ship 0.9 until I work these issues out. Unfortunately poor
Viktor is trying to submit patches against pivotal/master, which I'm
using as a dev branch, so he's bumping up against them.

Instead of just replying to him on Github I thought I'd
explain/apologize/appeal to the list in a series of Issue Emails, and
get feedback from the rest of you too.
