Pakistani singer Chahat Fateh Ali Khan's recent hit song "Bado Badi" has been removed from YouTube due to a copyright dispute. The track, which became popular across South Asia, is a rendition of a classic song originally performed by Noor Jehan in the 1973 film "Banarasi Thug."
Despite gaining millions of views within a month of its release in April 2024, Khan's version was taken down after copyright infringement claims. The song had captured widespread attention in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Chahat Fateh Ali Khan first gained fame during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 with his music videos shared online. His repertoire includes songs such as "Pyara PSL," "Lota Lota,", and "Tu Chor Chor Chor." Known for their repetitive beats and altered lyrics from existing tracks, his songs often provoke mixed reactions from listeners.

Several reels and memes were created by content creators on social media while using this song. Many Indian and Pakistani celebs also created reels on the song.
As people loved to make fun of Chahat's singing style, some of his other songs also went viral. However, following a copyright infringement strike on YouTube, the song has been taken down. A Deccan Herald report suggests that the copyright strike happened because the song's composition was similar to Noor Jehan's 1973 song from the film Banarsi Thug and it had crossed 128 million views on YouTube in one month.
Chahat Fateh Ali Khan rose to fame during the lockdown but in the past two months, his popularity peaked on social media with thousands of viral reels and memes being made on his songs. He has also been invited to several interviews and podcasts in Pakistan recently following his newfound fame.
Interestingly, Chahat started his career as a cricketer before getting into singing. As a teenager, he was known as Kashif Rana and played for Lahore in first-class cricket. He participated in the 1983-84 Quaid-E-Azam trophy in which he scored 16 runs. Later, he moved to the UK for better opportunities and played club cricket for 12 years.
Last year in an interview with Murtaza Ali Shah, he revealed that ex-Pakistani Test cricketer Aaqib Javed used to play under his captaincy. Khan also said that it was he who discovered Javed from a government school in Sheikhupura and taught him to bowl on line and length.

The song was originally performed by the legendary Madam Noor Jahan for the 1973 film Banarsi Thug, starring Firdous, Ejaz and Munawar Zarif, with its composition arranged by Bakhshi Wazeer Sahib.

The writer was Fayyaz Hashmi, a prolific lyricist who had penned over 500 songs before moving to Pakistan in 1947. These included most of the popular non-film songs sung by Jagmohan Kaur, Hemant Kumar, and Pankaj Mallick in the 1940s.
But, Chahat Fateh Ali Khan twisted the word "Jaane" into "Aane" and included some Urdu alphabet in his new song. He used some Urdu alphabets like Alif, Bey, Pey, Tey, Sey, and Jeem with different alaap.
Pertinent to mention that self-claimed Pakistani singer Chahat Fateh Ali Khan is already facing legal consequences after receiving a defamation notice, claiming that he has damaged the reputation of the late musician Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Chahat has been accused in the notice of falsely suggesting a connection with the deceased artist and harming his reputation through his musical works. Furthermore, Chahat is alleged to have violated copyrights and offended the people of Faisalabad.
