Is it possible to add an alpha channel to an existing sid image with Erdas Imagine 9.3?

Thank you for your response, Paul.

If I understand correctly, an alpha channel is not the same as setting a background value. The blog posting discusses background values. 

Does this make sense or am I missing something?
