Mosaic ecw or tiff tiles
By mapmonkey in Intergraph Geospatial Software Forum
I have an existing ecw file for a rail corridor which I would like to add addtional areas of imagery. The addtional areas have been supplied in ecw files for each area, and also as tiff tiles.
The main issue I'm having is removing the white border around the images, which then masks parts of the other images.
Is it possible to add to an existing ecw mosaic?
Thanks,
Chris

I would convert all images to tiff or img first. Then, use MosaicPro or similar tool to mosaic and compress to jp2 or ecw.
I can't speak to whether or not it is possible to add an existing ecw mosaic.

Perhaps you can define (by digitizing or by calculating while selecting the images) the effective AOI polygon for each input image, thus removing the white areas. But in ECW, is the white area stricktly (255, 255, 255)? If only almost such, it can cause some troubles. If there is a mask within the ECW files themselves, indicating the background value, then it may work better. ERDAS may also automatically calculate the effective area always as non-null; not (0, 0, 0) instead of white, unless the background can be chosen. How about selecting the Minimum operator in the mosaic, or using the Layover mode but altering the order in which the image types are given to the list, so that the older images come on top?
I don't think you can add to existing mosaic as in old Disimp days... But I think you can use the ECW as such, and also produce ECW as a result.
