Re: Regarding color balnce techniques in Erdas Imagine 9.2.

Which tool are you using to make the mosaic? In 9.2, Mosaic Tool has many Color Correction options under the Edit menu. I haven't found them to be much help with my imagery, but one of them might work just fine with standard Quickbird images.
Hopefully someone with some real experience with either Color Correction or Quickbird will be able to give you more helpful direction.

Hi rtissell,
Thanks for your opinion. I also used different mosaiced options in a edit menu. Can you tell me, Which option is much better for getting best visual appearance for mosaiced image. So it is best for visual interpretation. Anybody knows any information regarding color balance, please share here. Thanking You.
Regards,
Madhavi

9.2 starts to be a bit old but my rule of thumb is following in new version:
1) Run mosaicing and only color balancing used is Image Dodging with default values. That makes fairly good result in most of the cases. Actually it fails mainly in case you have clear brightness "Borders" in image. For example big piece of water etc. In case it works it makes most of the cases really good result by default. So just clicking dodging in color balancing menu that is all I do.
2) If Dodging clearly fails then I drop dodging out and let it do the work just without any color balancing. That also work fairly well many times.
3) In new version there is tool called "Illumination equalizing" and that is supposed to do good work together with Dodging. So as a third option I choose that.
In case all mentioned fails too then I accept that now work turned to manual and start to do it. Then you just use all possible tools in Imagine to work out problematic areas of images.
Histogram Equalization is ment for old satellite imagery and it is not so usefull with modern imagery. Color balancing is a tool that uses "planes" to fix brightess around images. That is mainly for traditional aerial images that have more brigthess in center of image than in surroudings. First tool just allows you to drop out some areas in color balancing.
