Just wondering if this is possible, and if so how to set it up...

I have several hundred ArcGRID tiles (terrain) that I need to mosaic (into .img). I would like to mosaic them into "meta-tiles" -- for example, tiles 1-10 into a single tile; tiles 11-20 into another tile, etc.

I can do this manually by simply using the mosaic tool to run a bunch of individual mosaics. This is what I have been doing, but it requires a lot of "babysitting" (i.e., watch the status bar and when one mosaic is complete, start the next one). What I would like to do is create several .mos mosaic files and then schedule them to run one after another (i.e., the second mosaic starts only when the first mosaic is complete), so that they can run overnight, over several days and not consume network resources.

I have never used Batch processes before, so any advice (or step-by-step instructions) would be appreciated. I didn't find much useful info in either the Field Guide or Tour Guide.

Thanks!
James

Try creating each .mos files and then use Mosaic Direct. Open the .mos
by using 'Load' at the bottom of Mosaic Direct, then batch it.

Thanks Paul - that looks like a good way to approach it. However (and as
I said, I have not used Batch processing before), when I add the .mos
file and schedule a start time, I get an Imagine error that says "The
task could not be scheduled because the task could not be saved".

It is listed in the Scheduled Batch Job List box, but it never starts at
the designated time.

Any ideas?

Hi James,

create your *.mos files and then press process. in this dialog it is possible to select batch processing.  What you have to know, is the approximately processing time of one mosaic. Now you can schedule the start of each mos after the one before is finished.

James,

The batch tool in ERDAS IMAGINE uses the Windows scheduler, for which
Microsoft requires full admin privileges. Please verify you are logged
in with admin privileges.
