Hello, hope you can help me with this one. I recently downloaded some SRTM data in geotiff format...when I try to mosaick them in erdas 9.2 I get an error (when I try to import the first tiff in the mosaic window) that sounds like this: "No space to read TIFF directory". Do you know what may be the problem?

Thank you in advance

Bogdan

Hi Bogdan,

It could be that there isn't enough temporary disc space to perform the mosaic? From memory, ERDAS needs 3-4 times the original filesizes in disc space in order to perform the mosaic. I'm sure others on the list will be able to give a better explanation.

Regards,
Dave

Set a large empty hard drive as your temp space in preferences.  This should solve the problem.

Bogdan,

As I recall the SRTM geoTiffs are downloaded as .zip files. Windows
will read the contents of the zip file just as if it were uncompressed
thus giving the impression that the file exists on your hard drive and
is ready to be processed. The error message ""No space to read TIFF
directory" indicates that the .tif file has not yet been uncompressed
and Imagine cannot read the .zip file.

Open the .zip file and extract the geotif and worldfile to your hard
drive. I think that will solve the problem.

Hello Donn, hello all,

I have a lot of space on my hard drive (2 partitions, C>40 gigas free, D> 100 gigas free) so i think this is not the problem. Actually, I have this problem with just one of the 5 GeoTiffs I'm trying to mosaick...The other 4 are ok and i can mosaick them....Later I saw that same error apears when i simply open the Tiff in the erdas viewer. Therefore I think it is a problem related to the data. Anyhow, thank you very much for your prompt answers!
