editing colors?
By Petra in ERDAS Software Forum

I wish to edit the coloring of an image that consists of calculated values.

It seems that when I display my Result map from the modeller (multiresultmap = multimap2 - multimap1)
layer nr 4 as Pseudo color, or as Gray.

I cannot edit the colors anymore in the attribute table, also not with RGB Slice etc.

Message is: No Color Column present.

There is of course something somewhere,
but I cannot see it and
I cannot select "Show RGB" in the Column Properties (remains grayed out).

Re: editing colors?

Petra,

To edit colors in pseudo color mode the file should be an integer format, e.g., signed or unsigned 8-bit, 16-bit.  Otherwise you will only see the scaled lookup values and it will be impossible to determine the actual values.

To assign pseudo color values to a continuous (4- or 8-bit preferred) data file permanently, I would do the following:

1.  display the Result.img using all default parameters.

2.  Click Metadata to open the Image metadata (image info).

3.  Within Metadata, click Edit -- Change Layer Type.  The type should change from Continuous to Thematic on the data sheet.

Close Metadata.  Clear the viewer.

4.  Re-display Result.img.  It should default to a Pseudocolor image at this point.

5.  Look for the "Table" tab on the far right of the ribbon.  Click that to open the table options.

6.  Click "Show Attributes" and you should see the attribute table with color blocks for each value.  Change them as you wish.  Save and close the attribute table and the colors will display as you have defined them from this point onward.

Thanks,

I found the Thematic, and it also worked for single floats.

- I do the calculation in the modeller
- I display layer 4 in Pseudo color
- then choose Raster, Thematic, layer 4
- then open the Attribute table and I am able set the colors as an RGB slice eg. from red to green.

The 'Thematic step' seems a new step in v 2011,
in 2010 with Classic interface it went OK directly...

In fact, I find it strange 'Thematic', as it is purely continuous data:
resultmap(continuous data) = map2(continuous data) - map1(continuous data)

input values of both maps/layers range from 0 to 1,
output values are therefore expected to range from -1 to 1.

For images with floats: as Erdas uses 'bins' for display, therefore it should be possible to edit colors for all default 256 bins...
