[imagine_lps-l] Recode and Burn the classification

Hi List

 

Can anyone assist me

I have use the AIO to digitise the urban or Settlements,then I have run the classification using the AIO ,what am not sure of is to recode in order to create background or blank tamplate inorder to burn the AIO layer and also to burn the AIO layer to other classification.

I think you will find it easier to extract the AOI in ArcGIS before classifying it as per the following:

1. Create a shape file of the urban AOI ( in Arc GIS go to Arc Catalog>New Shape file> (type=polygon) (set projection).

2. ArcMap>add image and or available cadastral layer and blank urban layer shape file>Toolbars>Editor>digitise the AOI as polygons in the new shape file from image or a cadastral bdry layer as background>save>Data>Export. Alternatively create mask shape file by selecting by lot size in cadastral layer.

3. Extract the urban areas from the image in Arc GIS using Spatial Analyst Tools (Extract>Extract by Mask (Mask=urban areas polygon file you just created)> Data (from rcl Layer)>Export Data to save.

4. Open extracted urban areas image in ERDAS Imagine and classify as per usual procedures.

Maybe there's a shorter procedure. I'd be interested to hear of it.

The only really time consuming step in the above procedure is the time it takes to create the urban areas mask with which to extract the AOI.
