I have two Excel (.xls) files that I'm comparing using Beyond Compare 3. When a record is different, it's messing up the alignment, and it doesn't fix itself for several records, so I'd like to manually realign the compare. According to their help, I right-click on a line and choose align. Except that align isn't on the right-click menu. Why?
It's even easier than that. All you have to do is close the original "Data Compare" window, select the two files to compare in the "Folder Compare" window (hold down the "Ctrl" key to multiselect), then right-click on your selection and select "Open WithText Compare".
When you compare data with this program, it displays two folder lists with detailed color-coding. It simply indicates if the analyzed file types are available in a single folder, both folders, or if both files are completely different. Up until recently, when I compare a file in the latest commit on the currently active branch with an earlier commit on the same branch, the earlier commit file would show in source tree in a temp directory, such as C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Local\Temp\Mxm5Gc_requestHandler.cfc.
So for those who don't know what "Beyond Compare" is, it's a program that looks at files from 2 sources and compare them and tell me which goes where (from Dev to Staging for example) based on dates or changes to the file itself.
Is there anything like this for MySQL? I'd like to compare 2 databases and have it tell me if 2 tables are different and in those tables, what columns are different (and if possible, be able to merge both).

- Make use of the ultra-handy right-click explorer file and folder context menus to compare stuff.
- The default comparison is file size plus date and time, which is super speedy but not always accurate. Use the little scales icon (or the Session Comparison Control menu) to switch the comparison type to Size and CRC.
- When viewing a file comparison, use the referee icon (or the Tools Edit Current Rules menu) to tweak the file comparison rules. I usually turn off all the options under "Unimportant Text" such as leading whitespace, case, line endings, etcetera.
