Kalau dalam Bahasa Inggris, a discussion text is a text that presents both sides of an issue or argument. Discussion text dapat berupa materi seminar dan wacana terkait isu kontroversial. Nah, kesimpulan yang terdapat dalam discussion text, umumnya bersifat netral.

Sudut pandang yang dimaksud pada discussion text ini bisa berasal dari banyak sumber dan tidak hanya berasal dari satu sisi aja, ya.

Bagian ini akan berisi pengenalan masalah yang dibahas. Issue pada discussion text bisa berupa masalah hangat yang sedang beredar di sekitar, masalah pendidikan, kesehatan, sosial, politik, sejarah, atau isu-isu lainnya.

Struktur discussion text yang kedua adalah arguments for atau supporting points. Pada bagian ini, berisi penjelasan yang bersifat positif (pro). Jadi, jika kamu bisa menjelaskan hal-hal yang membuatmu setuju/mendukung terhadap isu yang didiskusikan. Argumen yang kamu utarakan bisa berupa keuntungan, manfaat, dan sebagainya.

Kebalikan pada poin sebelumnya, arguments against atau contrasting points akan berisi penjelasan yang bersifat negatif (kontra). Jadi, kamu bisa menjelaskan hal-hal yang membuatmu tidak setuju terkait isu yang didiskusikan. Bisa berupa kerugian, atau hal-hal negatif lainnya.

Bagian terakhir dalam discussion text adalah conclussion atau recommendation. Di sini, kamu bisa membuat kesimpulan dari hasil diskusi yang sedang dibahas. Selain itu, kamu juga bisa memberikan saran terkait solusi terhadap isu tersebut.

Contohnya, pada narrative text, kamu akan menggunakan Simple Past Tense karena menceritakan peristiwa atau kisah yang telah terjadi. Selain itu, narrative text juga akan menggunakan adverb of time, seperti yesterday, one day, tomorrow, last year, later, dan sebagainya untuk membantu memperjelas konteks urutan peristiwa dalam cerita.

Discussion text umumnya akan menggunakan tenses yang pola kalimatnya lebih sederhana (straightforward tense), seperti Simple Present Tense, Simple Past Tense, atau Simple Future Tense.

General noun atau common noun adalah kata benda yang mendeskripsikan nama-nama orang, benda, atau tempat secara umum. Discussion text akan menggunakan general noun untuk membahas suatu topik secara umum.

Selanjutnya, thinking verb adalah kata kerja yang berhubungan dengan kegiatan berpikir. Contoh kata yang digunakan, yaitu think, wonder, believe, understand, feel, certain, dan lain sebagainya.

Nah, karena dalam teks diskusi itu terdapat opini penulis mengenai suatu masalah, jadi kamu akan menggunakan kata penghubung untuk memperkuat, membedakan, atau menentang argumen yang ada.

Dalam membuat teks diskusi, tentunya kamu nggak boleh asal memberikan pendapat. Mau kamu pro atau kontra terhadap isu yang dibahas, kamu tetap harus menyampaikannya berdasarkan fakta yang bisa dipertanggung jawabkan.

After presenting the issue, the writer should provide a list of points that support one side of the debate. These points should be well-reasoned and backed by evidence, such as facts, examples, or expert opinions. Each supporting point should be presented in a separate paragraph, with a clear topic sentence and relevant details.

Following the supporting points, the writer should present a list of contrast points that represent the opposing side of the debate. Like the supporting points, these points should be well-reasoned and backed by evidence. Presenting contrast points helps to provide a balanced view of the issue and encourages the reader to consider different perspectives.

Despite these benefits, excessive use of social media has been linked to increased feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and depression, particularly among adolescents and young adults. Studies suggest that constantly comparing oneself to others online may lead to feelings of inadequacy and lower self-esteem, which can negatively impact mental health.

Moreover, the prevalence of cyberbullying and online harassment on social media platforms can create toxic environments and exacerbate mental health issues. Victims of cyberbullying may experience increased stress, anxiety, and depression, and in some cases, these negative experiences can have long-lasting consequences.

After presenting both supporting and contrast points, the writer may choose to offer recommendations based on the discussion. In this section, the writer synthesizes the information from the discussion and offers practical suggestions that take into account both the positive and negative aspects of the issue. This helps the reader to consider possible actions or changes that could address the problem or improve the situation.

Considering the potential benefits and drawbacks of social media use, it is recommended that individuals set boundaries and practice moderation to maintain a healthy balance in their online lives.
