The 1^st District would like to alert our community members to a scam involving a group of people from Manassas, Virginia who have been going door to door soliciting tree work services under the name C&L Tree and Landscaping.  The solicitors from Virginia are not licensed to do tree work in Maryland, and they are not employed by C&L Tree Service, Inc., which is a legitimate company based in Montgomery County, Maryland. 

Homeowners are encouraged to verify valid employment of anyone who attempts to solicit tree work or other landscaping services under the name C&L Tree and Landscaping or C&L Tree Service, Inc.  The phone number for C&L Tree Service, Inc. is 301-926-4646, and their website is candltreeservice.net. 

Residents are asked to promptly report suspicious activity by calling the police department’s non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.  If known, please provide detailed descriptions of suspicious persons and/or vehicles.  Individual descriptors include race, gender, hair color, clothing, and approximate age, height, and weight.  Vehicle descriptors include color, make, model, and tag number.  If a direction of travel is known for a suspicious vehicle, that information can also be helpful for responding officers.
