I am having a tough time figuring out how to see live score updates on my iPhone. I have an iPhone 14 Pro. I went to News and followed several teams. Sometimes I see the Follow button in the TV app and sometimes I don't. For example, Michigan and Penn State are playing now. I follow both teams. I went to the TV app on my phone and the only button there is 'Open in'. What am I not doing correctly?
Make sure you have followed the guidance outlined in the Apple Support article Follow your favorite teams with My Sports on iPhone - Apple Support, which details how to follow your teams and view information. Specifically, check out the following section on getting scores:
When you go to the TV app to view games, you need to have a subscription plan that supports viewing live sporting events. This may be through your television provider, or directly through a particular television station/company. The last matchup between Washington and Washington State as Pac-12 rivals and possibly the last time the teams meet in a regular-season finale on Thanksgiving weekend produced a fantastic finish befitting of their storied history.
On a postcard-perfect afternoon at sun-soaked Husky Stadium where temperatures reached 45 degrees at kickoff, the Huskies remained perfect after kicker Grady Gross booted a 42-yard field game as time expired for a 24-21 win.
Tied 21-21 with 1:14 left, UW surprisingly went for it on fourth-and-1 from its own 29-yard line. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. faked a hand off to running back Dillon Johnson, turned and flipped to wide receiver Rome Odunze, who took off down the left sideline.
The story: The Cougs had a chance for the go-ahead score, but were forced to punt after getting near midfield. Cameron Ward appeared to have room to run for a first down before throwing incomplete on third-and-11.
The story: The UW defense appeared to hold the Cougs to a field goal before Dominique Hampton was hit with an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty for leaping over the line to keep the drive alive. WSU then made the Huskies pay. Worth noting, too, that the Cougs ran a short rush for Ward on third-and-15 from the 20, seemingly fine with settling for the field goal.
The story: Following Michael Penix Jr.'s interception to start the second half, UW's defense came up with back-to-back sacks to knock the Cougs offense back into their own territory across midfield.
The story: The Huskies took advantage of both the interception of Cam Ward and WSU defensive back Cam Lampkin slipping at the line of scrimmage to leave Odunze as open as he was for that score. They will absolutely take that.
The story: The Cougs came up inches short on a fourth-and-1 at the UW 45 after Isaiah Hamilton almost converted a third-and-17 with a 16-yard catch. That's a big stop for the UW defense.
On their opening drive, UW quarterback Michael Penix Jr. missed a pair of open wide receivers en route to a punt. The Huskies punted again near the end of the quarter after Jalen McMillan fell down for a 3-yard loss and Denzel Boston dropped a sure first down on the following play.
The story: That was quick. QB Cam Ward barely had time to complete a pass on the first two drives. On WSU's third drive, he didn't need time, throwing three darts in a row to reach the end zone in explosive fashion.
So far, the Huskies have done so successfully, nearly sacking Ward (via Zion Tupuola-Fetui and Carson Bruener) on back-to-back third downs to force a pair of three-and-outs. UW is also giving pass-rushing defensive lineman Voi Tunuufi ample early reps on the interior, something to monitor as the game goes on.
The story: WSU again goes three-and-out on its second offensive series. UW linebacker Carson Bruener had his sights set on WSU QB Cam Ward on each of those plays, limiting his elusiveness and helping force another Cougs punt
The story: Michael Penix Jr. hit Denzel Boston for a first down on the second play of the Huskies' first drive, but his ensuing throws weren't very accurate and WSU's defense forced a punt.
The in-state rivals will meet as Pac-12 partners for a final time on Saturday, when No. 4 UW (11-0) attempts to cement an undefeated regular season in Seattle against possible spoiler WSU (5-6). The Huskies will officially join the Big Ten next summer.
Apple introduced Live Activities on iPhones with the release of iOS 16, but the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max take this feature a step further letting users follow live sporting events on the Dynamic Island. Live Activities are designed to provide current updates on time-sensitive matters, like tracking a delivery or rideshare request. While this is very useful for live tracking, Apple has another use case in mind for Live Activities and the Dynamic Island: tracking the scores of sporting events.
Sports fans would love to watch every event live, but that just isn't possible. As a result, they often find themselves switching back and forth between an online game feed and other apps. Thanks to support for Live Activities, iPhone users can now choose to follow a specific game and view live updates and score changes on the Dynamic island and the lock screen. A handful of apps currently support live sports scores, including the Apple TV app (for NBA, MLB, and Premier League games), NBA app, MLB app, and more recently, the NCAA March Madness Live app.
To get live scores from the Apple TV app, scroll down to the 'Sports' tab on the 'Watch Now' page. A few popular or live sporting events will be displayed here, but users can tap the arrow next to the 'Sports' tab to view the full sports page. At the top of this page, a 'Watch Live' option will show all current and upcoming sporting events in one place.
For users who know exactly what event they're looking for, the 'Search' page can be used to find an event, team, or league. Once they've found the game they want to follow, tap the game title to open its standalone page. Current events will have a 'Follow' button on this page, and clicking that button will activate the Live Activity for that contest. On iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, the Live Activity will appear on the Dynamic Island, providing scores and updates at a glance.
The feature will likely be supported on more leagues in the future, and users can't follow games that are currently delayed, suspended, or have ended. Despite a few limitations, Apple's game-tracking feature is a great tool for sports fans who want to multitask while following an ongoing event on their iPhone 14 Pro.
While the number of apps that support live scores on the Dynamic island are still quite limited, a handy little app called Sports Alerts displays scores for a range of sports and leagues. The supported leagues include MBL, NFL, NBA, NHL, WNBA, NCAA, UEFA Champions League, Premier League, ATP, WTA, PGA, NASCAR, Formula 1, and more. While the app doesn't broadcast the live games, it does display live scores, and users can customize alerts for their selected leagues.
To customize alerts, users can tap the 'Alerts' tab, select their league of choice, and then choose which alerts they'd like to receive. If users have an iPhone 14 Pro model, live scores will be displayed on the Dynamic island. Long-pressing the Dynamic Island will show an expanded view with more information. Other iPhones will display the live scores on the lock screen.
Apple has released its first sports-focused app, called Apple Sports.. The app, which launched officially this morning, is a free live score and stats hub for iPhone users in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.
On top of standard matchup information like score, game clock and broadcast information, users will also be able to see betting odds (which can be turned on and off via app settings). Live scoring updates will provide lineups, play-by-play and stats when expanded into single-game view.
