The ARTS Council welcomes the appointment of Dr. Connie Sullivan-Blum as Interim Executive Director. She will act in this capacity while the search for a permanent Executive Director occurs. Connie has served at The ARTS Council as the Folk Arts Coordinator for the previous seven years. We feel fortunate to have someone with her experience, leadership and sense of community to take on such a crucial role during this transitional time. As Interim Executive Director, Connie will continue to advance and promote the services and values of The ARTS Council. Feel free to drop by to give us feedback or simply to say hello!

Vani Akula's paintings can be seen at Sullivan's Funeral Home and the Colony Apartments during the month of July. Laura Charles has four of her traditional oil paintings in the Houghton Gallery at 171 Cedar Arts Center as part of their Artful Raffle, which will occur on July 25. Laura is also offering two classes at 171 Cedar Arts Center for the summer, Creature Creation (Kids 8-12) and Drawing Club (Kids 10-14). Register online here. Dan Gallagher has opened a new website featuring his photographs at www.DGallagherPhoto.com. Stop by the Houghton Gallery at 171 Cedar Arts Center and see four of his photos in the current Artful Raffle from now until July 25th when they will be auctioned. Also, nine recent works of Gallagher's are on display at the Soul Full Cup coffee shop (conveniently located next to the Gallery at the ARTS Council) on Market St in Corning. Gretchen Halpert currently has work in four exhibitions: The Arnot Museum of Art 74th Regional, Elmira, NY; Lime Hollow Nature Center, Wetlands, Cortland, NY; The Kalamazoo Nature Center, Fourth Coast Illuminated, MI; and the GNSI Annual Exhibit at the U. of Colorado Museum of Natural History. Betsy Kent will have a solo exhibit at Apple Ridge Retirement Home during the month of July. Artist Members C. F. Lawrenson, Kyle Reynolds, and Rod Reynolds are part of a group show, Summer, at Elmira City Hall in the Solarium Gallery. The exhibit is on view through July 30. It can be seen Monday-Friday, between 9am and 4pm. Dixie O'Connor will have three of her paintings on display at the Central (Steele) Library in Elmira during the month of July.
Bonnie Scott offers flamework bead lessons at Joyful Adornments Studio in Odessa. Schedule four 2-hour lessons for $160. Fee includes use of studio materials and equipment. Age 14 and up. No experience necessary!

Chemung Valley Historical Society presents Civil War Highlights, on view in the old Iszard's storefront at 150 North Main Street in Elmira through the end of July. Community Arts of Elmira and High Maintenance Theatre Company present Summer Youth Theatre Camp, featuring local artists Marianna Raho and Katie O'Herron. The Corning-Painted Post Civic Music Association is proud to announce its upcoming 2014-2015 season of performances. Find the complete schedule here. Corning Painted Post Historical Society announces that the Painted Post Erwin Museum at the Depot is now open for the season. The Depot will be open June-August. Hours are 10am-4pm, Monday-Friday, and Saturdays, 10am-2pm. Learn more here. Elmira Regional Art Society members will have their work on display at area venues during the month of July. For a complete list of artists and venues click here. The Miller Performing Arts Center at Alfred University will host the first annual MostArts Summer Music and Arts Festival July 6 - 12. The festival includes a week-long Young Pianist Competition. Competitors will present concerts throughout the week. The winner of the competition will be awarded at the Saturday, July 12 concert which also features the MostArts Festival Orchestra. Additionally, a Chamber Music Series featuring an informal chat and concert by members of the Festival Orchestra will be presented each day at noon. General admission for the evening concerts is $20 for each night or $100 for all 6. Special pricing is available for senior citizens, students and families. Visit here for tickets.
