After finding a whales tail shirt at the goodwill today in southwest Va. I was very interested in finding out if it was a seafood restaurant. I am very heart broken to find out that it is closed down, but I really love the baby blue tee with a whale on the front and back. Did the waitresses wear this shirt??

God, James, I had totally forgotten about those stickers!! They used to put them to all of the quarters that they passed out as change for advertising. They did have some good fried chicken. It was pressure fried ala KFC. That was the same way they cooked the 'whaler' tater's which were basically a crinkle cut quarter of a whole russet potato. Sort of like a french fry and a baked potato all in one.

Once upon a time a friendly whale decided to vacation on Shelter Island. If you follow the 18 holes of the mini golf course you will be taking the same fun journey that led this friendly whale to our beautiful island.

In the 1940 Walt Disney film Pinocchio, the Dogfish is named Monstro (which is Portuguese, Esperanto, and archaic Italian for "monster") and is portrayed as a gigantic, sadistic, terrible, aggressive, intelligent, vicious, man-eating sperm whale, in contrast with the "gentle giants of the sea" in real life, with massive jaws, both of which have sharp teeth, and a grooved underside like a rorqual. He is first mentioned by Jiminy Cricket in a message from the Blue Fairy about Geppetto, who, sailing to find Pinocchio, has been swallowed by him.[1] They search for him, but are frustrated upon mentioning his name to the sea creatures, which causes them to flee in terror. After finally discovering him asleep, he suddenly awakens upon noticing a school of tuna swimming nearby and gives chase, eventually swallowing them and Pinocchio (but not Jiminy) before closing his mouth and falling asleep again. Inside his belly, Pinocchio discovers and reunites with Geppetto before suggesting that they start a fire in order to make Monstro sneeze them out, though Geppetto fears that this plan would make Monstro mad. The smoke wakes him up, prompting him to sneeze them out of his mouth. Unfortunately, just as Geppetto feared, this serves only to infuriate him after drinking lots of water to put the fire out, and he pursues them, using surprise attacks in attempts to kill them, but fails. Eventually, when Pinocchio pulls Geppetto into a hole in a cliff, Monstro leaps into the air, aiming to reconsume them, but ends up smashing against the cliff on impact. It is unknown what exactly happened to him, but, due to smashing against the cliff, he was apparently killed by the impact.[2]

In ABC's Once Upon a Time, Monstro makes a brief appearance in the episode "The Stranger", in which his Disney role is reiterated. His design has many similarities to the Devil Whale found in various other tales.

In the 2022 live-action remake adaptation of Walt Disney Pictures Pinocchio (1940), Monstro plays a similar role. Unlike his animated counterpart who is a sperm whale, he is reimagined as a gigantic, chimeric sea monster with the characteristics of whales, sharks, and cephalopods.

Pinocchio should use every ounce of force he has in his swimming to escape the whale. This should be built to terrific suspense. It should be the equivalent of the storm and the chase of the Queen in Snow White. . . .

Yes, this chapter is another one describing the anatomy of the whale, but there are some, uh, very interesting tangents, shall we say. Perhaps a bit revealing of our old friend Ishmael? Who could say, I can only speculate.

Ishmael attempts to describe the tail of the sperm whale, but finds that his words are inadequate. First, he goes over its anatomical specifications and its shape, but then he attempts to describe its actions and gets lost in poetic comparisons.

The tail is used for propulsion through the water, with the side fins being only used for steering the vast bulk of the animal. The graceful and reverential appearance of the flukes sticking straight into the air when a whale dives causes Ishmael to name it the most devout creature on Earth. It is also used by whales when they fight one another, they reserve their sharp teeth and enormous heads for their prey.

All of the virtues of the whale come together in its tail, it seems. It is massive, it is strong, it is powerful, and it is beautiful. And, on top of all that, it is deadly. Ishmael seems enamored with the tail, because it is a sort of singular point of contact between the whale and the rest of the world. It has no need for separate limbs or fiddly little fingers, it simply swings this one gigantic implement to make its singular impact.

This one lacking ability is all that prevents the whale from being functionally invincible, as it means that it cannot pluck the harpoons and darts from its own hide. For all its unstoppable power, this flaw is what allows the whale to be hunted and killed for its oil.

The tail, then, is entirely outward-facing to the world. It can only inflict, it cannot care for the body of itself. It propels itself, it smashes its enemies, it sweeps and feels for information, it stands straight out to compel the whale into the depths of the ocean where it may feed. But it has no self-reflection, it cannot scratch its own itches, it cannot defend or heal.

The whales may have a language all their own, communicating with their tails, and we would never have any idea. They keep their own counsel with the depths of the ocean. They are alien beings to us tiny humans, splashing about in the water with no regard for our curiosity.

This is part of the ongoing theme of whales as these strange, unknowable beings, akin to eldritch monsters of modern sci-fi imagination. There is something deeply intriguing about the idea of these enormous entities, larger than any other living thing on Earth, just being out there doing things without our knowledge. What are they capable of? What could their minds be like? There is no way of knowing.

The Whale Tale Charm features a simple, yet charming design of a whale's tail, with intricate details that give it a realistic appearance. The charm is small in size, measuring around 10-15mm in length and 6-10mm in width, making it ideal for a range of jewelry-making projects, including necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.

He sent the recording to colleague Gianni Pavan, a professor at the University of Pavia. Pavan was surprised at what he heard. The clicks were the calls of sperm whales, an endangered species thought to have left the Mediterranean years before.

Using the acoustic data from KM3NeT, scientists were able to track the sperm whales they found, monitoring what they were doing, where they were in the sea, and how many there were. They could even determine the size and gender of each one. They have identified hundreds of the creatures hiding in the deep.

Since 2005, Riccobene and his team have continued to monitor the whales using audio sensors of KM3NeT and of other experiments deployed off the Sicilian Coast. Colleagues located at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts, and the National Research Council in Italy use the audio data to research all types of marine life. Collaborating with the Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in 2012, they discovered fin whales in the area as well.

The whale was reported by good samaritans on Saturday, and local coast guard units and biologists responded to the scene. They monitored the whale overnight to ensure that it did not escape prematurely.

The work to remove the net continued into Sunday. The effort to cut this particular whale free has been particularly challenging for divers, the agency reported, because of its sheer size and its state of agitation.

Since the beginning of the year, the Italian coast guard has focusted intently on illegal fishing, especially in specific areas where it is most active and pronounced. Since January, the agency has conducted 30 patrols and seized more than 100 kilometers of illegal netting - much like the nets entangling this whale. They have also recovered abandoned ghost nets from the water.

A previous whale rescue effort off the island of Salina ended in success. On the morning of June 26, the Coast Guard station in Lipari received a report from a group of biologists who said that they had spotted a whale in distress. The 30-foot-long whale had fishing net wrapped completely around its tail. The Lipari Coast Guard dispatched a patrol boat to the area with a team of local divers, who spent about one hour cutting the net free from the whale's tail fin. Their efforts were successful, and the whale swam off to rejoin a group of three others which had been waiting at a distance.

This heartwarming scene went down Friday off the coast of Lipari, where some biologists working at a turtle recovery center noticed the whale not too far from the shore. It was static, so the team contacted the Coast Guard ... which sent a group of divers to investigate.

Sure enough, the whale's tail had been tangled in what's been described as an illegal net -- and if you watch the video that the divers were able to film ... you can see it's wrapped around tight and made it just about impossible for the sea creature to swim freely.

Well, the divers got to work and two of them went underwater -- with cameras rolling -- and they started snipping away with knives and cutters until the whale could shake itself free. Unclear how long it took, but we imagine a fair amount of time was spent on this.

Natural Bronze Whale Tail Charm. This beautiful piece will remind you of whale watching and catching the graceful tail of a whale peeking out of the salty waters. Whales are great navigators, and are very communicative, always expressing their emotions to one another. This cheerful whale would be perfect for any animal or ocean lover!

At the center of one of the rooms of the Museum of Geology and Paleontology is the fossil skeleton of a whale that lived three million years ago. The fossil, ten meters long, found and excavated in 2007 in the hills of Orciano Pisano (Pisa), has been the subject of an innovative immersive installation that gave life to the "Tales of a Whale" room.
