Windows Server (formerly Windows NT Server) is a group of operating systems (OS) for servers that Microsoft has been developing since 1993. The first OS that was released for this platform is Windows NT 3.1 Advanced Server. With the release of Windows Server 2003, the brand name was changed to Windows Server. The latest release of Windows Server is Windows Server 2022, which was released in 2021.

Microsoft's history of developing operating systems for servers goes back to Windows NT 3.1 Advanced Server. Windows 2000 Server is the first OS to include Active Directory, DNS Server, DHCP Server, and Group Policy.

Windows Server hosts millions of apps, from simple IIS web apps to complex apps like SharePoint, Exchange, database, and 3rd party products with integrated security, high availability, and replication across servers and clusters.

Secured connectivity in Windows Server 2022 adds another layer to security during transport. The new release adds faster and more secure encrypted hypertext transfer protocol secure (HTTPS) and industry-standard AES-256 encryption with support for server message block (SMB) protocol.

Additionally, in Windows Server 2022 customers can take advantage of the File Server enhancements such as SMB Compression. SMB Compression improves application file transfer by compressing data while in transit over a network. Finally, Windows Admin Center, a tool loved by admins, brings modern server management experience such as with a new event viewer and gateway proxy support for Azure connected scenarios.

While Intel tests, updates, and deploys new microcode, we are making available an out-of-band (OOB) update, KB4078130, that specifically disables only the mitigation against CVE-2017-5715. In our testing, this update has been found to prevent the described behavior. For the full list of devices, see the microcode revision guidance from Intel. This update covers Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), Windows 8.1, and all versions of Windows 10, both client and server. If you're running an affected device, this update can be applied by downloading it from the Microsoft Update Catalog website. Application of this payload specifically disables only the mitigation against CVE-2017-5715.

I have physical HP servers. They have an onboard GPU and I have installed an nVidia quadro card in them. When I had the BIOS GPU settings set to Auto, it would cause this issue after a few days. This setting is the one that allows you to enable/disable onboard and external GPUs.

On Server 2016 and after an in-place upgrade Defender will not start, I cannot reinstall it nor take ownership of the Dir. I have tried all of the usual fixes, the server is fully updated with all patches and I would like to fix Defender so it is operational.

in Windows Admin Center, Storage Migration Service: I set my source FS to the name of the cluster Role of my fileserver, say "FSTEST". I dont use the Name of the cluster, i dont use the name of the nodes. I use the name of the Role, as is suggested by SMS itself.

Then, when it comes to destination i try the following: When I Use the Clustername of the new cluster - SMS tells me that the target is a cluster with existing grouped fileserver roles (which is correct) and i should use that as a target. But i dont want to migrate into the new Role (Since that would change all paths), i want to migrate the entire Role.

So I have some 2012 R2 servers acting as terminal servers. I've begun the upgrade process to 2019 and performed an in-place upgrade of one of them. Now I'm getting the "No Remote Desktop License Server is available" warning.

We have an internal domain (CompanyName.lan) which everything on AD is setup with. We would like to have an intranet site helpdesk.companyname.lan on the network, but the issue is that the SSL cert is self-signed. You cant get a public SSL cert (like Lets Encrypt) for a .lan domain, and I don't like the idea of exposing the website to the public internet as helpdesk.companyname.com (which we own), or using a txt record on the DNS to get the certificate w/ lets encrypt. Can we use our windows server to distribute the public cert as "trusted" to all the workstations on the AD domain?

Provides Windows Server auditing reports on the current configuration of your servers and enables you to easily compare that configuration to a known good baseline, so you can spot and remediate security gaps.

To safeguard your environment, it is critical to know every nook and cranny of your Windows servers. What DNS records were updated recently? Who changed access permissions to your files shares? Is your server configuration in line with your security policy? What software was installed while you were away? Netwrix Auditor gives you detailed answers.

Use Netwrix Auditor to perform systematic Windows Server auditing and quickly note any deviations from your known good server configuration baseline, such as outdated antivirus or harmful software. Remediate IT risks in accordance with server management best practices.

Any changes to file share permissions or the Local Administrators group can threaten data security on a Windows server. Investigating incidents using Windows audit logs is difficult or even impossible, as you have to navigate endless pages of native audit logs and struggle to make sense of cryptic events in machine-readable format. Netwrix Auditor enables you to quickly analyze potential privilege abuse incidents and bring rogue insiders into the light.

I have an asus z790-plus TUF Gaming Wifi D5 Intel LGA 1700 ATX MotherBoard.I know it says officially that is supports windows 10 and 11.But I need to install windows server 2022 and the drivers are not working. isn't the kernel build similarly that such things should not be an issue? I still have issues with the network, wifi, and sound drivers only

Docker is a container platform that allows you to define your own software stack and store it in an image that can be downloaded from a remote repository. The Docker platform includes an nginx proxy server.

The OpenSSH client and server are now available as a supported Feature-on-Demand in Windows Server 2019 and Windows 10 1809! The Win32 port of OpenSSH was first included in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and Windows Server 1709 as a pre-release feature. In the Windows 10 1803 release, OpenSSH was released as a supported feature on-demand component, but there was not a supported release on Windows Server until now.

OpenSSH is a collection of client/server utilities that enable secure remote login, remote file transfer, and public/private key pair management. OpenSSH is a powerful tool that originated as part of the OpenBSD project and has been used for many years across the BSD, Linux, macOS, and Unix ecosystems. Adding OpenSSH to Windows Server 2019 allows organizations that work across a broad range of operating systems to use a consistent set of tools for remote server administration.

When it comes to networking, Windows Server has become the standard. For the last 16 years, Microsoft has released a major version of Windows Server every four years and a minor version every two years. The minor versions can be recognized with the suffix R2. The Windows operating system is persistently updated to add new functionality to match the needs of today's users. Administrators need to understand how their server has evolved and upgraded. The list of all major and minor Microsoft Windows Server versions is as follows:

Use the desktop clients to keep your files synchronized between your Nextcloud server and your desktop. Select one or more directories on your local machine and always have access to your latest files wherever you are. Learn more about our clients here.

The Web Installer is the easiest way to install Nextcloud on a web space. It checks the dependencies, downloads Nextcloud from the official server, unpacks it with the right permissions and the right user account. Finally, you will be redirected to the Nextcloud installer.

The archive should be extracted in a folder your web server has access to. Latest stable version: see Changelog.
Follow the Nextcloud Admin Manuals installation chapter.
If you already run Nextcloud, refer to the upgrade manual.

For additional information about the Windows Server operating system media when ordered with a PowerEdge server, refer to Dell PowerEdge: How to Download the Microsoft Windows Server Media / ISO file.

Note: We acknowledge the wide use of CentOS on PowerEdge servers and understand that it is a community-developed derivative of the Dell-supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Support for this operating system is available directly from the CentOS community at CentOS.
