Arch puts my monitor to 'sleep', or 'blanks' or suspends by default, in 20 minutes or so. It ihappens even without X installed. Where or how do I tweak it to never go to sleep?
I have tried
xset s off
as well as disabling DPMS in xorg.
Couldn't find anything in the wiki pertaining to this exactly.

Take a look in the system BIOS menu and see if it has any special power saving settings. Perhaps something weird is going on with that. Also, you could try setting the delay to some huge number (999) in xorg.conf. I'm not sure of the proper names for the settings but you can look at the man page.

Hmmm...Even from a base install with just command line, on every machine I install Arch on, the monitor goes to sleep, or to a black screen after 15 or 20 minutes...pressing a key wakes it right back up again, but I want to disable this completely.
Any other thoughts?

In my case the situation is exactly the opposite: I would like the monitor to go off after 15 minutes of idleing, but I don;t know how to do this. Xscreensaver is set to go on after 10 minutes, but the monitor never goes on standby.

To control Energy Star (DPMS) features:
-dpms Energy Star features off
+dpms Energy Star features on
dpms [standby [suspend [off]]]
force standby
force suspend
force off
force on
(also implicitly enables DPMS features)
a timeout value of zero disables the mode

I've got the same problem, I turn my screensaver off (killall gnome-screensaver) and disable dpms (xset -dpms) and still my screen goes blank... Really annoying when you're trying to watch a movie from your bed or sofa...
I'm now running a java app which uses the Robot class to move my mouse a pixel every ten minutes as a workaround, but a real solution would be nice.

This is what's great about good forums. You ask a question... doesn't get the problem solved... find the solution on your own... AND post the answer in your own thread.
Good work Misfit138! This has been an anoying issue for me as well. Looking forward to getting rid of it.

I have had this monitor for a couple of years (great monitor). it was attached to my wifes MAC. all of a sudden the monitor starting to go into the sleep mode. we could get it back up again by turning the power off and back on again several times. we would have to power cycle the monitor anywhere from 7 or 8 times to 25+ times to get the monitor to stay on after each occurnence

I bought my wife a new monitor and moved this monitor to my kids PC (not a MAC). The monitor does the same thing on the kids PC. One strange thing that I noticed last night is that when it goes into the "sleep mode", if you look real close at the monitor you can till see the icons and windows on the monitor, but they are really, really faint.

I have a similar problem with my Dell Monitor, and have found that instead of power cycling it, restoring factory settings works too. I have been powercycling it for the first 10 minutes of it's use every day for the last few years, and it finally decided today that it wouldn't return to the normal screen. I think there's something wrong with our autoadjust sensors because it seems to be just an issue of contrast. Tell me, if you unplug it from the computer and leave the power on, does it display the color test box, and then darken itself again?

Yea ir does. when it is unplugged from the PC and I turn the monitor on, the color test box appears. it states Auto Detect...self test feature and the 4 color bars - the screen then goes blank, but the blue light (on light) stays in the blue mode.

Some more info...when the monitor is unplugged from the PC and I turn the monitor on, the color test box appears. it states Auto Detect...self test feature and the 4 color bars - the screen then goes blank, but the blue light (on light) stays in the blue mode.

From the monitor itself. Most dell monitors have 4 buttons in the bottom corner, excluding the power button. You just have to press menu, then go to factory reset. Then 'all settings' or something similar. For me it's first button, third button, first button third button, first button. (1-3-1-3-1)

I've connected a second display using HMDI with a Belkin adapter. I've set the Energy settings to NEVER for my monitor(s) to go to sleep. Still - the second monitor is going to sleep and it forces my iMac to sleep as well.

Hi BarbEl,

I'm sorry to hear that the CD installation did not resolve the issue. I would like to assist you with this, and come to a resolution. I would just need to know the full model number of your computer. I have included the 'Guide to finding your product number'.

Thank you.

My problem is rather silly - my monitor is brand new, has been working well for the past 2 days and I went to switch it to HDMI. Instead of HDMI, I accidentally switched it to VGA. I don't have a VGA cable so it is stuck at "No signal" then shuts itself off into power saving mode before I can even access the monitor menu again. I am going to attempt a 15 second hard reset on my tower. Hopefully it works.

I understand you accidentally indicated you wanted to use VGA instead of HDMI. The best thing to do if you cannot fix it on the Monitor menu. Use f11 on start-up and do a system restore. It should be Ok to restore it back to when it was working correctly.

I have read many threads on many forums and see everybody helping with instructions on how to change your settings. For those of us that just has one monitor on the computer we are trying to work on it didn't really help.

I am having the same problem with my HP 2511x as many others (as I have now researched). The monitor does not detect a signal to the pc. I have switch the DVI cables suspecting there was an issue with the cable, but had the same results. I then switched the DVI cables and replaced with HDMI cables and again ran into the same issue. I then bluggeda different monitor with DVI connection to my PC and immeidately had an image. Therefore the issues exists with the monitor and not the PC or the graphics card within the PC. I purchased this monitor about 10 months ago and certainly did not expect to get a LEMON from HP.

What I do not undertand for the life of me is why HP has not issued a recall for this model as there are a MULTITUDE of troublsehooting requests out there which all reflect the SAME problem. I suspect HP is quite aware of an issue with this model and I truly hope that they will either repair or replace at no additional charge to me.

Have subject 2270 Monitor. After 3 years suddenly black screen and sleep, and check video cable message if monitor was manually awakened. Tried unplug reset of monitor . . . no solution. Unplugged power to turned "on" (at CPU plug end) CPU for about 10 minutes. Monitor power was left "on".Plugged power back into CPU, activated On/Off switch to "ON" (old USAF trouble shooting wording), and everything spooled up, and is back to Normal. It took about 2 minutes for everthing to get to normal "start up" screen (HP Vista crap), then another minute+ for E-mail, and another for the Nets. But so far all is well after the CPU Power RESET technique.

The previous time I could bypass this problem by connecting from my laptop to my Z230 HP desktop with RDP/MSTSC. The monitors (2) would then receive the signal again. But now even this trick does not work anymore. Both monitors are permanently sleeping and i can only work on my HP desktop from my laptop with remote desktop.

we have 3 desktops that we know work, we just moved and are trying to hook them up and 2 of the 3 are saying no input signal and then immediately say monitor going to sleep. we bought new vga cables last night nfor them and are still getting the same thing.

Hi I recently purchased an Intel Arc A770 and have been enjoying the experience so far, however there is one issue that bugs me and actually affects my workflow. When my monitors go to sleep the graphics card is unable to wake up my monitor connected via HDMI, the power light on the monitor will switch from 'standby' to 'active' while my other two monitors flash as the windows are re-arranged. Along with this the Intel Arc Control panel will pop up with notifications that something has changed and it will do this ad nauseum until I hold down the power button on the HDMI connected monitor to power it off and then power it back on, only then will things start working.

Thank you for the troubleshooting steps but I'm still experiencing the issues after following your instructions. I looked for a driver listing on the download page but it seems the earlier drivers are no longer present, so these are the drivers I know of plus whichever one was available around 12/8:

I have the same symptoms as you. Please provide a bug patch from Intel as soon as possible. Windows sleep mode does not apply to intel Arc graphiccard and cannot be released from sleep mode with any keys, so I am restarting Windows by forcefully shutting down.
