Creative Crisis Leadership (CCL) is looking for experts in
climate-change-related earth systems science to round out our team for a
grant proposal.
The proposal is to the NSF Regional Resilience Innovation Incubator
(R2I2) program, which aims to:
- support community-engaged team science to co-design high-impact
solutions to climate-related societal challenges that leverage recent
advances in fundamental climate change and Earth system science
research.
- Each R2I2 project will address specific regional climate
challenges and will develop and demonstrate solutions to those
challenges that can be effectively applied in real-world settings.
- Investment in R2I2 will leverage past federal investments in
addressing climate change and will provide a bridge connecting
advancements in basic science with local knowledge, informed decision
making, and technological innovations for societal applications.
The aspect of this grant that we propose to address is community
engagement and education. Our basic argument is that, without community
education, involvement, and engagement, even the best climate solutions
will go nowhere. Our solution to this problem is to foster community
participation through experiential learning and gamification.
However, we need someone with an earth systems background to add to the
team (either as a project partner or as a scientific advisor) who can
provide us with a juicy bit of "knowledge gained from research in Earth
system science" to inform and guide our pilot project.
Current partners are
Creative
Crisis Leadership (expertise in experiential learning and
gamification for community engagement) and
UCSC (expertise in serious
gaming and assessment). Both partners are currently working in wildfire
preparedness and community resilience, so we're looking to tie into
wildfire.
