Good Morning,

The August Leadership Congress is fast approaching; I hope that you have been communicating with each other on the various topics and articles shared with you through the mail lists.

Today’s challenge is on what is your contribution to the future of Africa? We also have readings on Global Citizenship (Focus on Japan) and Innovation (Focusing on Google). The last reading will be one of the most debated and controversial article on the role of business in the society by Milton Friedman.

Ø  Capturing Africa’s Business Opportunity – David Kaberukua – Managing Director of the African Development Bank – All teams to come up with Kenya’s biggest business opportunities

Ø  The Case For Investing in Africa – Paul Collier – A professor of Economics at Oxford University – All teams to come up with justifications for investing in Kenya

Ø  Fulfilling the Promise of Sub Saharan Africa – Ngozi Okojo – Managing Director for Africa – The World Bank – All teams to tabulate their individual contributions to the future of Africa

Ø  First Place Sweep by American Girls at First Google Science Fair – a New York Times article points to the simple curious nature that spurs innovation – Do you think making spinach blue will make children eat greens? – What needs to be done to spur innovation among our scholars? All teams tasked to discuss this.

Ø  Google Looks for the next Google – a New York Times article on the quest by Google to share the next innovation’s big cake – Equity has revolutionalized banking? What about Healthcare? Transport? Energy? Education? Who is the next Equity? All teams to deliberate on this…

Ø  Understanding Japan – Sumo wrestles with Globalization – Hannah Been – Beijing Bureau Chief for Time magazine -  Japan (and China) currently see-saw the title of the world’s biggest economy – their ladies won the Women World Cup – What can we learn from their culture in a perspective of Sumo Wrestling? – Which team is courageous enough to tackle Global Citizenship?

Ø  The Business of Business is Business – Milton Friedman - Do you agree or oppose this thinking?

Again, for your benefit in the upcoming Leadership Congress – It would help if you read, discussed and debated on the various articles.

Do have a good day.
