Hi

Does anyone record/store patent document ation in their repository?

If so, have you customised the metadata at all?
What metadata fields are you using?
Is there a schema out there?

Please could anyone share...?

Love to all

Helen

Hi Helen,
There are a handful of patents in our repository.

For us, they come via Pure or Symplectic - so the data we may receive is already constrained by those systems.
I can't recall doing much in EPrints to accommodate these other than adding a 'filed' option to the datesdatesdates plugin and corresponding date_type field.

I hoped that schema.org would have a model for a patent - but it appears not.

If you want any additional info about how patents are modelled in Pure/Symplectic I can provide them.

Cheers,

John

Hi Helen,

We have a patent as an item type in EPrints as part of a very old SWAP profile (http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/repositories/digirep/index/Eprints_Type_Vocabulary_Encoding_Scheme#Patent). Metadata is basic with addition of 'Patent Applicant'.

Item Type: Patent
Document: PDF
Creator:
Title:
Publication Status:
Divisions [department]:
Abstract:
Publisher: World International Property Organization [or USPO, EU or UK?]
Identifier: WO/2023/123456/xy
Patent Applicant: xyz Limited or University of X
Official URL: https://patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/detail.jsf?...
Dates: Date Event : Published date & Issued date

It's not requested very often. Does not seem to be represented as a resource type in OpenAIRE / Datacite for comparison?

Best,

Linds

Hi

Thank you everybody for your suggestions and help. A lot of food for thought.   We are reviewing all the item types and its patents turn now. I think we will have a go at modelling something up and see if we can get some content from WIPO.

kind regards

Helen
