Subject list - external URL code list?

I'm looking at our EPrints repo that we've had running for many years to try and understand the subjects list that we have as part of our process of actually closing it down and shifting our content to Zenodo.

As part of this process I'd like to make use of Zenodo's 'subject' field, but that requires URLs for the entries for the code list, so I need to first understand where out code list originates from and determine a reference URL for each entry used.

Having looked at things and searched the E-Prints forums, I _think_ our list came from the Library of Congress subjects list, but whilst I can find relevant entries for most of the subjects we have in our list there are some missing (e.g. 'history of science'). I've also compared it with the HECoS list, but there appear to be more missing entries.

If anyone has some thoughts or suggestions on this I'd be grateful to hear, otherwise we'll be forced to use the free-text keywords field instead in Zenodo and so lose this level of mark-up.

Hi Graham,

You're correct, the default subjects tree that comes with EPrints is taken from LCSH (Library of Congress Subject Headings).

I've had a quick rummage through various releases of EPrints*, and can't find 'History of Science' as a term that was ever included in the default LCSH subject file, so I think these must have been added to your EPrints instance at some point.

I would suggest trying to find appropriate terms (and their URLs) from here: https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects.html 

If that doesn't help, there's a whole world of stuff here: https://id.loc.gov/ - which might be of use...

I've compared this to what I can see on another NERC EPrints repo (nora.nerc.ac.uk) and their list is very similar (it has a few extra items in there than we do) and seems to be labelled as the 'NERC subject areas': https://nora.nerc.ac.uk/view/subjects/subjects.html  It doesn't looks like the Library of Congress list as shown on those links you sent over, so I suspect that it's perhaps a NERC specific list that i'm looking at here.... I'm going to drop NORA an email to see if I can track this down further.
