Hi

We've got a small problem here in Liverpool with DOIs being minted at the wrong time. Basically for some reason they seem to be minting when deposits go into our review buffer instead of when we make them live. Our developer is off at the moment so I'm looking for a way to prevent this from happening until he gets back next week. So my question is would simply temporarily turning off the indexer be the best solution? Or does this come with risks I'm not aware of?

Thanks

Gary

Hi Gary,
It's not the worst option, although it's difficult to say if there are other risks without knowing what other things your repository is configured to do.

An alternative low-barrier solution would be to update the password on the DataCite account that EPrints uses (via the DataCite site).

This should make any coining/minting tasks fail in EPrints.

There may be other impacts to this too – especially if the same credentials are used in multiple places (on other systems) for DOI-related tasks.

Either option should leave tasks in the queue for your develop to address when they return.

Happy to talk this through off-list if you'd like.

Cheers,

John
