In cluster, we have 80TB of local storage in total and the disk util is 100% in all the 10 indexers. But when we query /services/admin/cacheman it was showing 394TB in local and 0.025TB in remote while today after reboot, it shows 396TB in remote and 0.309TB in local.
Also please note that we tried using the evict Rest endpoint to manually trigger a bucket eviction. The bucket folder got empty (contents deleted) but the /services/admin/cacheman "cm:bucket.status" still showed "local". So eviction happens but the status is incorrect.
It is my understanding, that Cache manager knows about all buckets in the system at all times, whether the bucket is cached or not. It will be nice to get access to that information along with meta data (such as bucket size and/or individual file sizes), regardless of the bucket being local or remote
dbinspect does expose most of this information but it can only be queried efficiently for a small set of buckets at a time. but we need a way to efficiently query it for all buckets in the system (millions of records), at the same time.
Meanwhile, the cm:bucket.estimated_size is the actual bucket size and there is no guarantee that the local storage would have all of it as buckets could have been evicted. Alternatively, adding the bucket size across all deduped buckets will give you the total S3 storage use.
i have turned the read ahead optimization in windows me to maximum which means it is 64 k now....but i want to make it read/cache even more into ram like a 1, 2,...even 20 megabytes to be stored in ramfor later use.
As you may know disk performance is impaired by a low setting for read ahead due to above reasons, causing more read operations. By storing the larger amount of info in ram, repeat returning to the hard disc for additional bits of the same file would would be reduced.
I edit my response about cacheman, the slider only went up to 512 on my initial view. When I manually edited the registry and increased it to 1024, a new slider appeared in cacheman with my setting listed and able to be lowered to 512 and increased much higher.
I have asked a couple of times how to test for determining the correct size. I would imagine that your system configuration would have a lot of influence on it, but am not sure what tests would tell you when you went too big for example. I am up to 1024 now with no discernible ill effects yet. I have 512 or ram so there is plenty of room for buffers. My system is fairly speedy anyway so I am not too sure how to measure any improvements that may have occurred. The programs I run before shutdown yesterday seemed a little more snappier.
Doing so could cause corruption from pending unwritten data - the same effect you would get if you pulled a flash drive out while writing a file to it - with the difference that the copy/write will appear to have finished from Windows' point of view.
For those that have a need to prompt for additional user input during an installation of ESXi, whether that is an interactive session or using a scripted install (Kickstart) may have noticed the solution posted in my 2015 blog post no longer works with recent releases of ESXi (newer than 6.0).
I was recently contacted by VMTN community cacheman, who authored the original snippet after my 2011 post with an updated solution that would work with newer releases of ESXi (e.g. 6.5 or newer). Thanks to Chris, he discovered the following after taking another look at the initial hack:
It seems that the tty1 techsupport.sh which I had commented out in /etc/inittab is having no effect in these versions and the login prompt is starting on tty1. As far as I can tell this is because for versions >= 6.5, the init process starts before the extras.tgz is unpacked, so it reads the /etc/inittab that comes natively with ESXi rather than the modified one in extras.tgz.
Unfortunately I was unsuccessful with my first tests (Nested ESXi with HP ISO ESXi 6.5U2 image) :
- I need to enter the console root logging and blank password (initial KS password is ignored),
- Then the keyboard is extremely slow (similar to what was with the previous solution).
I found the resolution for the "defaulting to DHCP" error. At the end of the network line, the redirect is writing to > /tmp/networkconfig. This isn't defined anywhere in the script. After the reboot command, the line %include /tmp/networkconfig needs to be added like your original ks.cfg script from 4.1.
I have finally solved all issues.
- backspace working again
- solve "slow keyboard" - adding sleep 10, and kill initab
- techsupport isnt started, and not login needed (by remove techsupport from initab

If the rendering looks ok when you use an external monitor then you need to figure out what's different between the LCD and the external. Is the resolution vastly different? If the LCD is running at 1920x1200 then it is going to struggle! Try reducing the games res to 1440x900 or something. Also, have you got synch every frame and triple buffering on, I think this could help, worth a try.
As some of the previous poster's sugested turn down your resolution and game settings also you have 1 Gig of Ram which used to be the sweet spot for gaming now I strongly feel 2 Gig's in todays newer games is the sweet spot.( 2 Gig's will help on certin newer games)
You also may want to consider googleing the tweak guid for the games you are playing. What speed Hard drive do you have? If i remember I read a while back where their were some issues with lag when the Hard drive loads and their was a fix for that. ( somthing to consider)
Also you may want to use a driver cleaner too then update your video drivers. I game a pretty good bit and here are a couple of links for mobility drivers much more up to date then the ones on Dells site and also some instructions for installing the latest desktop Drivers right from nVidias site which have always worked very well for me.
3. Click File then select OPEN ARCHIVE FILE Brows the downloaded driver and open it. Highlight all using CRTL-A .Then click on the EXTRACT FILES button on the left hand side. Name & Create a destination to desktop
I don't play EQ 2 or Guild wars . But being you are running the latest drivers from tweak R us which I like very much.I would still try to throw some other drivers in the mix maybe some later drivers because that may be part of your problem. As i mentioned the RAM can be a issue but before I would purchase Ram . If you havent already? I would by process of elimination rule out the possiability that too high of game settings and too high of resolution or drivers can be causeing the problem. Take into consideration that now the 6800 Ultra is considered a mid range card and you have the 6800 Go but I feel it should still play without the issues you are describeing on lowered game settings and a lower resolution. Have you played any other newer single player games with High system requirements to test if the problem is only playing online? I would also try to look into the fix that I have read quite a while back with EQ 2 and the lag from the hardrive loadeing too often. Ok here is a tread I coppied and posted a while back from another forum and posted it here maybe to help out with F.EA.R. this fix was intended specificly for EQ 2 and memmory hog games.
I found this tread I mentioned for FEAR performence improvements you may want to look into.I don't want to try it just yet because my 7800 Go GTX will be delivered monday and I dont want to make any changes at present because I want to measure the performance difference between my 6800 Ultra card and my new 7800 Go GTX . After a couple of days of playing and compareing the two cards I will give it a try. I had stuttering on my PC with FEAR and on my XPS 2 it runs like a breeze.
Time to tweak that inefficient memory management from Windows for better performance for the memory hoggers of games (like EQ 2, which this guide was written for in the first place).
Ok...
Here is what you do.
STEP 1: Download cacheman HERE and install it.
STEP 2: Follow these simple instructions... (guide credits go to Cameron Sneed, Sep. 21 2005)
First, before we get into tweaking WMM, there are a few things you should know.DO NOT use any of the wizards number one! DO NOT and I repeat, do not use the "RAM Recovery"! This pushes essential windows files and proceses out of memory which is not good! The program will tell you it is, but all it takes is simple logic to know that this should not be done. We want the OS to be fast, because the game communicates with the OS and then the OS sends the info to the processor and video card. We do not want it to have to access the HDD for this!
Also, do not change the IO page lock limit. Leave it at default. I would explain, but this has no benefit unless your machine is a server, and who is going to play EQ2 on a server?
Now to the optimizing! Click on the settings tab on the right side, then go to "RAM".Don't worry about anything else, this is where you need to be. Make sure that you uncheck the "enable" under the Recovery tab at the top. Now click the optimization tab at the top and check the boxes "Disable executive paging" and "unload DLL's from memory". You are now done with this area.
Now go back to the settings tab on the right hand side and click tweaks. Like I said before, do not adjust the IO page lock limit, ignore this feature. Check the box "disable NT last access update". Basically what this does is changes the date on a file after it is modified. This can reduce performance of your hard disk, especially if it is slow, or very full.
You are now done tweaking your memory! Go to File, Save settings, and then exit the program. The changes are permanent, so you can change the option to load every time windows starts if you'd like or uninstall the program. I would recommend testing the game and see how it works first before you uninstall, so just in case, you can go back and change the settings to the way they where before. Of course that would mean just unchecking the boxes I told you to check.
