Legendary UK dub techno pioneers Glyn 'Bigga' Bush and Richard Whittingham aka Rockers Hi-Fi, originally formed in 1992 in Birmingham. Rockers Hi-Fi gained a cult following in the early years of dub-techno and soundsystem culture with their psychedelic, bass-heavy blend of dub, house, techno, beats and drum & bass.

Rockers Hi-Fi first met when Dick was putting on nights in Brum whilst working as a carpenter, after Glyn needed work doing on his house, the pair got chatting. One thing led to another and they eventually set up a studio in Glyn's living room, where the majority of the first Rockers Hi-Fi album was recorded. Following a signing at Island Records in '93, the pair expanded to a studio above a piano store in the centre of Birmingham.

A lot of these tracks presented here were influenced by musical outfits like Mo Wax, Metalheadz, Shut Up & Dance, Scientist, and King Tubby. Glyn's and Dick's music also heavily sampled 90's hip-hop, and the classic New York house sound i.e. Kenny Dope, Bobby Konders, Nervous Records & Strictly Rhythm. Not forgetting the Birmingham Diskery, a record store where the pair found plenty inspiration amongst film soundtracks, spoken word LP's and other obscure records which became part of the Rockers sound.

We're pleased to present a selection of tracks from their formative years, mainly encompassing the club ready, dancefloor centred part of their discography. This reissue LP includes a mixture of sought after bangers, as well as some lesser known tracks wh Bonnich people may not have heard.

I recently found a funny old book at Chamblin Bookmine, "The Book of Rock Quotes," which came out in 1982. It lists hundreds of things musicians have said, as well as what critics and others have said about musicians. Some are funny, some boring, some nonsensical. Here's a sampling from the book.

The honor this week goes to Mikey's Imaginary Friends, a Jacksonville electro-rock band. They played Monday night at Jack Rabbits along with local progressive rockers Rusholme Ruffians. I'm giving Rusholme Ruffians an honorable mention, but I'm guessing they were inspired by The Smiths' song by the same name.

In their inaugural season the Motor City Rockers hockey team, based at Big Boy Arena in Fraser, have qualified for the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) playoffs with a three seed in the Continental Division.

The Rockers capped off their regular season with a pair of wins over the Mississippi Sea Wolves over the weekend. Friday night, April 14 was Macomb County Employee Night, which saw the ceremonial puck drop delivered by Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel.

"We are thrilled to welcome the Rockers to Macomb County's sports community -- a pro hockey team that promises to be a thrilling and family friendly experience for fans of all ages," Hackel said. "The team's dedication to delivering a fun and exciting game-day atmosphere is truly inspiring, and we look forward to supporting their continued success on and off the ice. Let's go, Rockers!"

The Rockers will face the Columbus (Georgia) River Dragons in the first round of the playoffs. The first game of the three-game series was set for Wednesday, April 19 at Big Boy Arena. Tickets are available for $10 at.mcrockershockey.com/tickets.

The FPHL is a Class A professional hockey league, with most of its 10 teams located in seven states along the East Coast and Southeast parts of the country. The Rockers are one of two teams from Michigan, the other being the Port Huron Prowlers, who joined the league in 2015.

In the United States, there are three classes of professional minor league hockey, consisting of A, AA and AAA, with AAA being the top minor league. The American Hockey League (AHL) is the AAA class in the U.S., with most teams having affiliations with National Hockey League teams. The Grand Rapids Griffins play in the AHL and are the top minor league affiliate for the Red Wings.

The East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) is a Class AA league with NHL and AHL affiliations. And the two Class A leagues are the FPHL and the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). Some of these teams are affiliated with ECHL teams.
