Hi folks,

I've updated the #ePrdctn calendar for 3/2 - @jtallent. I've also
started this discussion thread with Lindsey's notes on future speakers
so that we have a place to discuss more scheduling. Lindsey, did Toby
reschedule or should someone follow up on that?

Colleen

________

Tina, Susan, Colleen,

I have no sessions definitely scheduled. Here's what's simmering:

[1] Tobias Stevenson <to...@ebookarchitects.com> was going to do a
tutorial on SVG. I had this scheduled for yesterday but he has
problems of some sort to deal with right now.

[2] Micah Bowers <mi...@bluefire.tv> from Bluefire agreed to do a
session and I owe him a note about it. I thought he could give us some
idea what we need to watch out for when prepping epubs that might be
read in Bluefire. I've noticed, e.g., that graphics out of ID that
display nicely in iBooks are bit-mapped in Bluefire.

[3] I tried to contact Bill McCoy, the new ED of IDPF, via
pressc...@idpf.org but had no response. Still think it would be
good to have him since lots of folks who don't follow Adobe won't know
about him.

One further note: I have hesitated to invite those who make their
living as trainers and consultants since we can't pay them. Joshua's
hour earlier this month was more philosophical than technical, by
design.

Hey Lindsey,
I fixed your settings and now we're all owners and can edit and post
(Susan, Tina, you, me).
I'll follow up with Toby.
Thanks,
Colleen

________

Colleen,
I don't have permission to post to the Google group so I'm replying
via email. Toby did not respond or reschedule; I think he has some
crisis to manage right now. I'd be grateful if someone would follow
up. I suppose that I should follow up with MIcah though it won't be
for a day or two. I see that IDPF has a new website and that Bill
McCoy has his own email address now. I'll send him a note.
Thanks,
Lindsey

Hi Colleen, Lindsey, and Susan,

I'm afraid I'm going to have to bow out of a management role, due to overwhelming work and family issues. I'm really sorry but I can't seem to catch a break with the family issues. (Can't use freelancers for that, unfortunately...)

Maybe one or two of the others who expressed interest can step up? Erik? Matthew?

Thanks,
Tina

No problem, Tina – I’ll set up Erik and Matthew as owners if that’s ok
with everyone. I hope things smooth out for you soon!

Updates from my end of things:

I thought I’d set up the last Tuesday of every month as an #ePrdctn
Roundtable hour. That way we know that at least once a month we’ll
have an opportunity to get together to chat live about all things
eBook.
Toby said he still wants to do the Intro to SVG but prior commitments
are taking up his time. He’ll let me know when he’s ready.
I put together my own “wish list” of speakers and cam reach out to
them to see who I can get scheduled:
@lizcastro – on fixed layout eBooks
@rcgordon – on using Webkit to design ePub for iBooks
@indiamos – on her research on reading eBooks on a wide range of
devices (from her thesis intro that she posted on her blog)
@MoriahJovan – on her workflow (starts with Word and ends with Sigil)
@anthonylevings – on how he uses XML in his workflow

If that all sounds ok, I’ll move forward with it.

Have a great weekend!
Colleen

Sorry - meant the last "Wednesday" of every month as an ePrdctn
Roundtable hour.

All sounds fine to me. I think it would be good to have Pablo
Defendini on some time but I've never been able to come up with a
topic; perhaps on use of Coda and his approach to ebooks as websites.

Strahinja Markovic won't be able to tell me if he's on for Wednesday
next until Monday evening.

I just twigged that Wednesday next is the last of the month. I don't
see it on the #ePrdctn calendar.
What would you like me to do.

Hey Lindsey - go ahead with Strahinja. I figure if someone is available for that last Wednesday of the month they can take priority.

Ah – I see you got it posted. Cool.

Hey all:

I'm happy to help in any way, but I can't take on the full management
and scheduling of this. I have a huge metadata project for our entire
list on top of my eBook production work (and helping with a transition
to XML workflow), and it leaves me little time for much else.

Here's my thoughts on some future guests:

@amarie is always good for anything related to Adobe products. Anyone
interested in the Kindle plugin for ID?
@liza Video in ePUB? Anything she wants to talk about? I know she is a
busy person, but she would be a great guest.
Once someone is up to speed on ePUB 3.0, it would be great to have a
briefing session to introduce all the changes.
Any interest in a session on font availability/use/licensing?
@desi_leyba of Monotype could probably lead one.
What about someone from @Aldiko talking about their eBook apps? Maybe
not so much #ePrdctn, but might be of interest.
@draccah or someone from her team at SourceBooks on how they integrate
digital into their overall production process

Matthew

Thanks Matt! I’ll post it now. No worries – just wanted to give you a say in all this. Any help is appreciated – thanks for the suggestions.
