Today's Taize reading is relevant to a book I am reading by Brian
McLaren, called The Secret Message of Jesus. He also wrote A Generous
Orthodoxy, and one of his core points in his books is that the God of
the Bible wants people who follow God to be a blessing to the whole
world, not just to people who agree with them. In The Secret Message,
he argues (so far) that Jesus was talking about the kingdom of God as
a transformed way of looking at the world and other people so that
things that were impossible through human effort would still be
attempted, because God makes them possible. That's what one of the
promises of God is: that the kingdom of God is at hand, that is, in
our grasp, if we have only a little bit of faith that what we thought
was impossible is actually possible. Like fixing global warming,
ending poverty, ending racism, etc.

Wow! It sounds like enriching reading! I regret that several of you
can't make adult formation on Sundays; Fr. Stonesifer has been leading
discussion on the season, really dovetailing with the readings. Of
special note to me is the discussion of material things as is so often
related to our christmas and (to a lesser extent?) Channukha seasons.
I think that I have succeeded is reducing the gift buying urge of a
secular Christmas, but there are still 8 days to go...

Have a great day, unless you've made other plans!

It's a really good book, and it has discussion questions, if we're interested in reading/discussing it.
