For the past ten years I have been living with epilepsy.
The biggest problem I had prior was breakthrough seizures. As I am sure
most of you know, the are the shits!
For the longest time I have been using dylantin/phenotyn.
I was then given another complementary and well known medication called
Frisium or Tegretol. This seem to have help.
My medical dosage is fairly typical at 400mg and 10 mg tablet
frisium/tegretol.
For many years I was on the epileptic yo-yo. I would take lots of meds
at the beginning of the month due to multiple c/partial seizures.
Years later I eventually figured out why the medication wasn't as
effective as it could have been.
There was a ton of medication in my blood stream at the beginning of
the month. (I would over-medicate in the hopes that that would help
even though I felt worse) but towards the end of the month the level of
medication dropped to the point where I was no longer "medicated".
I was taking the medication every night before bed as directed by the
specialist. Then years later I suddenly realized what was happening.
The medication had to be at a consistent level in my blood stream. The
only way I could do that is take most around bedtime and a bit in the
morning.
It worked!
I take 360mg of Dilantyn before bed along with 10mg of Tegretol. The
following morning I would then take an additional 30mg of Dilantyn.
I have tried all sorts of different meds, some of them super expensive
but I find Phenotyn/dilantyn along with the 10 mg Tegretol to be the
most helpful.
As you all know, there is a really big "price" to pay when taking
medication but not having to be blasted with seizures when you least
expect sure outweighs the "cost."
It is importnt to listen to our doctor but I think it is more important
to go with your own body is telling you! For years I used as directed
by the specialist but it is amazing how such a minor adjustment made
the world of difference.
I hope that this would give you some insight in the manner in which you
use your meds and hopefully it could be of some benefit to you. Please
let me know, I appreciate any feedback.
Peace Be Upon All of You
Dear SSlowly,
have you ever had a neck injury?, or even jarred your neck?, take a
visit to a chiropractor you may be surprised. Just wondering how long
you have been having seizures. Even new born babies should have their
spines/necks checked for subluxations, as being pushed through the
birth canal can throw the neck out of alignment, as can accidents
throughout life. These misalignments then affect nerves that are all
important for sending messages to our brains. Which in turn can cause
seizures, bet no doctor told you that one, hey? as they like you to be
dependant on meds, more money for doctors, more money for med
companies.
My partner was on dilantin, he suffered a very bad skin rash reaction,
so was put on valpro which turned him into a walking zombie. Now since
visiting the chiro, who is helping him get off the meds, he's returning
to his former self. My partner suffered a neck injury when a teenager,
and damaged no's 1 and 2 of his spine/neck which are responsible for
sending nerve messages to the brain. Which inturn brought on seizures.
Interesting to see how many who suffer seizures may have these
misalignments and nerve damage in their spines and necks.
