I posted my lit review/breakdown under files. It is pretty down and
dirty without any frills so if you think that I am missising anything
important please let me know. I do have two other studies that I
found that I could add if you think that we need some more references.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Awesome job everyone!! Now here's the question----- HOW are we going to summarize this into a one pager to hand in on Wednesday?

Thought?

Thanks Mickey!

(Also, I'd be okay meeting after class on Wednesday if that is more convenient for people.  Maybe we could go to a study room in the library from 9-10?)

Alright Team got done later then expected but here is my first draft of the introduction, which sums up the rational for the study and I assume will work for what we have due on Wednesdays assignment. If you all could add your references to the references section using proper APA format, I have taken care of all the inline citations for the introduction section and just make shift copy pasted Erin's references although not full APA format to the reference section. I will add my own references tomorrow morning. In any case make any chances you all feel are needed, want etc and check for formating, APA style etc as well. As for the meeting I am up for it however it be nice if we don't run all the way till 10 if possible, don't really want to have to deal with getting home too late for dinner.

Hi Mickey (et. al),

Thanks so much for putting together this rough draft.

To ensure we don't duplicate work, I've converted Mickey's document to a Google document:
https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0ARtriPbwPCOPZGdoOHIzOThfMTA5ZHdjbmZxZnY&hl=en

Although not all formatting is preserved in this mode, at least we can all update together in real time so we don't have 5 separate copies floating around.   If everyone could please enter you're edits in it, I'd be happy to convert the document back to Word, do a final formatting check, and print it around 4 pm on Wednesday.

Is everyone okay with working this way?

Best,
Sarah

Hi All,

I've taken a few minutes to review the fantastic start Mickey has made on the background.  It seems to me that what we really need to turn in on Wednesday is the abstract.  I am happy to put that together..

For the abstract, we should have the "outcome" of our study, plus some vital study details, and parts of the background Mickey put together.

Based on my research, I propose that we say 1/3 of the men doing yoga have a significant improvement in their ED vs no change in the control group.  I also propose that we use the same IIEF-5 to determine whether or not patients ED improved.  I also propose that our study include 100 men, between the ages of 55- 70 with NO comorbid conditions (such as HTN, DM, CHD, etc etc) besides being overweight or obese.  I suggest that we make our study period 6 months. I think we agreed that we are doing a controlled clinical trial where we will have a control group and a yoga group.

However, I need input from someone (possibly Justin) on what specific type of yoga we will be having the patients do (will they be doing a certain form? or Silver Yoga Programme?).   How many times per week will they do yoga?  Will it be in a group with an instructor or following a video?

Also, is everyone okay with us saying that the control group were given general/vague instructions to walk? (This is similar to what the controlled clinical trial I found did.)

Thanks everyone for all your hard work!

Best,

Sarah

Awesome awesome....

To recap the conversation I had with Sarah and Erin..... Integral Yoga, is a good mild form of yoga that is ideal for older individuals.  We were thinking of doing a community trail, because Jessica suggested that when I spoke to her last week about our plans.  The idea is to take two communities in two different towns and begin a yoga program at the local Senior Center/Rec. Center.  We could have the groups meeting 3x/week for 1 hr;

Thanks Sarah for working on the abstract!!! And thanks Mickey for your work as well on the lit. review/ getting us more organized.

If we can pull together the majority of this paper BEFORE spring break, then we can all have a nice RELAXING break....

Peace,

Justin

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Hey team, we will meet tomorrow after epi, hopefully for 30-45 minutes. Also, I added my references and alphabetized them by author's last name. Please add yours if you haven't already. Also, I figured out a way to get the citation for your article the easy way on pubmed. view below if you're interested. It'll save you a few minutes of your precious time.

1. search for your article and select it. (unless it brings you straight to your article, the no need to select it)
2. at the top, you'll see "send to." click on that and select "clipboard" then click "add to clipboard." do that for all your articles.
3. once all articles are added to clipboard, go into your clipboard by clicking "# items" which is located directly next to the "send to" option.
4. once you're there, select all your articles again, and then "send to," then select "file," then click "create file." (IMPORTANT: under format, it should say "summary text"). a new box will open up and just copy and paste. then format it to APA style.

Hope that helps save you some time and in the future when you have to do Lit review again. =) See yall in class.

Hi All,

Please see the google doc to see the abstract I created.  I will print the abstract separately with all of our names on it, to hand in today.  Does anyone know if we also need to turn in our list of references at this point?  It did not say to do so in her powerpoint but I wasn't in class last week so I was not sure.

Best,

Sarah

she only said she wanted a lit review handed in this week, which is a summary of  the papers we are citing, i assume that includes a reference list...
