Theuniqueness of the visual arts major with a studio art concentration at Chatham University is its interdisciplinary nature. Students are given the tools to create technically proficient work, but are also challenged to incorporate alternative means of expression, to think critically about the images that they produce, to consider the context in which these images will be interpreted, and to contemplate the role that the artist should play in contemporary society.

This studio course provides students with an introduction to ceramic processes and materials. Instruction in beginning wheel-throwing methods augments competency in basic construction and surface application techniques. Projects focus on development of form and surface in ceramics, as well as exposure to historical and contemporary issues specific to the medium.

Students continue to develop their understanding of three-dimensional materials and processes, their history and practice, and associated conceptual vocabularies in this studio. The course aims to challenge students with ceramic and/or sculptural skills in order to move beyond technique and to reconsider material and process from a variety of perspectives. Studio and research assignments will examine technical and conceptual concerns, prompting students to articulate and contextualize their artistic practice.

Rotating on a yearly basis, special topics courses are offered by the department exploring a variety of disciplines, topics, and skillsets. Topics have included low-fire ceramics; encaustic painting techniques, assemblage and collage; and installation and performance.

The museum studies minor provides students with the skills, experience, and professional knowledge necessary to work in the museum field. The minor balances history and theory with practical experience designing and installing exhibitions and preparing educational programming. Students interact with museum and gallery professionals through frequent field trips to local and regional museums.

Chatham alumna Dr. Cheryl Olkes bequeathed a magnificent collection of more than 600 works of African art to Chatham College. Today, Chatham students use this collection for study, exhibition, and better understanding of African art and culture.

The studios adjoin the gallery making the artists available for visitors.The artists established themselves in Chatham in 1975. As the location is not only a gallery, but the artists' studios and residence, it offers a unique experience for the interested collector or gallery visitor.

Some people discover their passion later in life, and some fall into it from a young age. Ebony Grissett Delgado, the owner of Chatham Dance Connection, has been dancing her whole life, from her early days in dance competitions, to the dance team at UNC, to owning her own studio here in Chatham. Chatham Works is proud to be the home of the Lower Cape's only true dedicated indoor cycling studio. Our classes are taught by some of the most experienced and dedicated Indoor Cycling instructors on the Lower Cape.

The space is also equipped with Myzone's heart rate monitoring system, which displays your real-time workout data on a large screen display. (But the console on the bike can be paired with any ANT+ heart rate monitor.)

My passion for art came at an early age. I love to explore the many ways to create art be it by painting in different mediums or building and creating with clay. This year for the studio tour I will be displaying a variety of works of art. I will be showcasing my hand built pottery and sculptures. I love to make whimsical figures such as funny face pots and mugs to small animal sculptures. I have recently discovered Jizo statues. They are a beloved deity in Japan and have a sweet smile and calming presence. Currently I teach hand building pottery classes at Desert Sun Ceramics. My work is displayed at both Gallery Moab and Moab Made.

I had a high school student like that once, which made me super happy to know that he did not let that stigma about boys in dance keep him from letting dance help him with his other sport. He played football, and he came in and took some classes with us, and it definitely helped him with his balance and coordination on the football field. That was pretty cool.

Being a business owner has had its ups and downs for me, especially right now. When I first started the studio, it was difficult just trying to find a spot that was affordable and had the right amount of space that we needed.

Ebony developed a love of dance at a very early age after training throughout her childhood in ballet, tap, jazz, and pointe. Ebony attended UNC-Chapel Hill and received her B.A. degree in Afro-American Studies. While at UNC-Chapel Hill, Ebony was part of the High Kickin' Heels Dance Team, as well as the OPEYO! dancers. She served as choreographer for the semi-professional Durham Storm Cheerleaders in the late 1990s. Ebony also worked as an acrobatics and dance instructor in the triangle and triad area with Tap and Tumble.

In 1998, Ebony joined the teaching staff at Brittany's Dance Studio in Chapel Hill. She continued to teach with Brittany's and eventually served as assistant director until the studio closed its doors and relocated in 2005. Ebony also served as assistant director and master class instructor with The Dancer's Spotlight for several years.

In the fall of 2008, Ebony decided to start her own dance company, and this is where Chatham Dance Connection began. She started the program with about 25 students in a local after-school program and has seen the programs grow through the years. The studio is now housed in a cozy family-oriented studio in the heart of Pittsboro. Her love of children and dedication to quality dance education continues to be the heart of our dance program.

There are two different Studios to choose from at Pleasant Bay Village Resort, our kid friendly hotel in Chatham on Cape Cod. The Rear Deluxe Studios are pet friendly units with two queen beds and a full-size kitchen. The Front Deluxe Efficiency Studios are a bit smaller, offering two beds and an updated kitchenette (one of these units is an accessible accommodation). Every unit on the property, including Cottages & Rooms, offer assigned parking near the room.

The 390-square-foot rooms are located at the front of the seven-acre property near the main lobby building and pool. The units include two double beds and private bathroom with a bathtub and shower. The updated kitchenettes include a Miele cooktop, Bosch dishwasher, microwave/convection oven, refrigerator, and a dining alcove with table and chairs. A private sun deck with outdoor patio furniture and a charcoal grill overlooks the gardens.

One of these units** is our designated handicapped accessible room. It has a level entrance way to the room and the bathroom has some accessible features such as an extra wide door, extra grab bars around the toilet and in the shower, removable shower seat, as well as a wheelchair accessible vanity/sink. The room also has a compliant desk with a phone that lights up, and the TV/cable is closed caption capable.

These renovated, dog friendly 500-square-foot units are located at the back of the seven-acre grounds in a peaceful area overlooking gardens and the Koi pond. These studios include two queen beds, a fully equipped modern kitchen with granite counters and new waterproof flooring. Most units offer an Italian marble tiled bathroom with a bathtub, two units include a walk-in shower. Window seat dining is provided, overlooking the private deck with outdoor patio furniture and charcoal grill. Make sure to let us know IF you will be bringing your dog, we do have certain guidelines that need to be followed in order to ensure the comfort of all guests.

The Cultural Centre (CCC) is a welcoming and inspiring venue for organizations, groups, and individuals to enjoy and participate in diverse experiences for all ages. This one destination offers the Thames Art Gallery, CK Museum and Kiwanis Theatre. We exist to create awareness, appreciation, and pride in the artistic & cultural achievements of our community. We proudly host special events, exhibits, programs, camps, concerts and so much more. Anyone is welcome to rent and enjoy our two studio spaces available at the centre.
