Thissection will detail the hardware/software requirements needed todeploy the Delphix Engine with the Masking service. The DelphixEngine is a self-contained operating environment and application that isprovided as a Virtual Appliance. Our Virtual Appliance is certified torun on a variety of platforms including VMware, AWS, and Azure.
The Delphix Engine should be placed on a server where it will notcontend with other VMs for network, storage or other compute resources. The Delphix Engine is a CPU and I/O intensive application, and deploying it inan environment where it must share resources with other virtualmachines, can significantly reduce performance.
For those using both Delphix Virtualization and Delphix Masking, note that these must be deployed separately. A Delphix engine may only be used for either masking or virtualization. Running both masking or virtualization operation on one engine is not supported.
The Delphix Dynamic Data Platform takes an automated approach to protecting non-production environments. Using advanced masking capabilities, Delphix replaces confidential, personally identifiable information like names, addresses, credit card information and so on with fictitious yet realistic data.
Delphix defines each of the source and target machines as environments. The machines need a Delphix and database user as well as an accessible directory in which to place the Delphix toolkit scripts. Delphix is agentless.
The databases are ingested into the Dynamic Data Platform using native backup technologies. For Oracle, an initial full RMAN backup is used to ingest the entire database, and from then on, incremental backups are taken. The data is deduplicated and compressed to a third of its original size (sometimes even a quarter), creating a rolling live archive of data from where virtual databases (VDB) are provisioned to the target servers.
The masking engine connects and masks at mainframe, ZD&T and virtualized ZD&T levels. The virtual ZD&T environment can provide the quickest and most agile masking development. However, masking can be performed on the mainframe or the ZD&T staging environment for security purposes, keeping data in the production zone.
Delphix, an industry leader in the DevOps Test Data Management space (TDM), focuses on data management. DevOps teams rely on test data management to evaluate application performance, security and functionality. TDM uses production-like secure data for quality testing and the masking/anonymization and virtualization of data for compliance and risk management. Delphix helps clients accelerate application development and testing cycles by rapidly delivering data-ready environments. The Dynamic Data platform helps keep them compliant by identifying and masking sensitive information in line with regulatory standards.
"The Delphix platform allows us to virtualize and mask data, enabling our development teams to securely provision, refresh or rewind their data to any point-in-time more efficiently through automation and developer self-service," said Michael Urciuoli, Chief Information Officer. "This is helping with our organization's transition to a more agile and DevOps development methodology.
Over 30% of the Global 500 (including eight of the top 20 financial firms) use Delphix software to deliver data across development, testing and reporting environments, improving developer productivity and data security on-premise or in the cloud. Other reasons include:
Delphix, which simply created its own sector of the IT market a year ago based on the way its platform manages and consumes data, on July 2 released updates that it says will give developers greater self-service capabilities to speed up application development times in key enterprise initiatives.
Celebrating its 10th year in business this year, the Redwood City, Calif.-based company has made its investment on DataOps, a new slice of the IT business that it identified and named. The company uses DevOps, DataOps and a tool called Data Pods to provide its own brand of IT data management that has been earning contracts from a growing number (now numbering about 400) of customers.
Delphix and Cognizant partner on agile test data management solutions to drive digital business, digital operations and digital systems. Our partnership extends across regional markets, client organizations and delivery centers to enable and deliver DataOps solutions for banking and financial services, insurance, healthcare and other vertical markets to solve complex data challenges that drive meaningful change for you and your customers.
The Delphix Dynamic Data Platform (DDDP) creates an automated test data management delivery platform. This unique solution is built on virtual machines for both on-premises and cloud data environments and supports data virtualization technology that connects a relational database management system to self-service test data provisioning ideal for integrated data masking, virtual data protection and DevOps integrations.
Delphix provides the industry's leading solution for DevOps test data management, specializing in virtualization and masking production data to create efficient, ephemeral, compliant virtual databases for developers, testers, data scientists and other users.
The Delphix DevOps Data Platform empowers innovators with self-service access to production-quality test data while adhering to complex and ever-evolving data privacy laws like GDPR and CCPA. With Delphix, organizations accelerate application development, simplify operations, modernize with the cloud and improve developer experience.
Static data can become quickly outdated, failing to reflect current business conditions. Ensuring that test environments have the latest data from production environments means that testing can be valid and relevant.
A common approach includes a tedious and error-prone process of manual data updates, which can lead to inconsistencies and failures to catch critical errors during the testing phase.
Protection of sensitive personal data and strict compliance with various legal mandates is indispensable. However, traditional data masking methods are time-consuming and susceptible to errors as they often require manual scripting.
Finally, traditional masking techniques also struggle to accurately reflect real-world data scenarios, undermining the reliability and relevance of testing outcomes.
The first two challenges are amplified by the necessity for swift deployment of the latest software updates. Issues with data management can lead to delays in the testing phase, pushing back release schedules.
Manual processes for these tasks not only add to the timeline but also heighten the risk of errors, further compromising the quality of releases.
Delphix has proven to be an essential tool for users looking to comply with data privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA while also streamlining their processes. According to users, the self-service solutions provided by Delphix have significantly improved development processes and reduced development cycles. With Delphix serving as an Endpoint Backup Solution, users have reported that it eliminates data friction and drastically speeds up database refresh times from days to minutes. By doing so, it not only saves time but also lowers storage costs and enhances the efficiencies of the entire team.
Users have especially found Delphix useful in addressing storage consumption issues for non-productive environments, allowing them to achieve cost reduction without sacrificing performance. Additionally, the tool's compatibility with other automation tools like Jenkins has made it easy for users to set up automated regression testing. Delphix empowers developers and testers to effortlessly manage their data, offering features like bookmarking, rewinding, and refreshing data as needed. It even enables virtualization of databases, compressing data and creating virtual databases that can be accessed from anywhere.
The advantages of using Delphix extend beyond development processes. Users have found value in its ability to refresh data in MDM systems and perform data masking for enhanced security. Furthermore, the bookmark feature has been praised for facilitating easy testing of new database code by providing a quick way to revert back in case of any issues. Overall, customers have found Delphix to be a reliable solution that helps them save time and money while ensuring compliance with data privacy rules.

Self service of data is a reality. No more waiting for others to provide data copies to you. No more requests to the DBA team to refresh your analytics environment or set a restore point on your test database and later rewind it when things have gone wrong. No more tickets raised with the middleware team to refresh your development application with a production copy.
A recent blog post by Andrew Pan at Delphix summarises perfectly why self-service data is crucial in modern software development. It ties in nicely to a blog post from our very own Matt Griffith, where he runs through a technical example of how to configure and use the Delphix DataOps Platform to provide self-service data.
