Hi everyone,

We are trying to figure out what could be the easiest way to produce
technical drawings from a system designed in EPANET, using minimal
professional software (excluding AutoCAD). The drawings would be used
for tender documents and contracts, so we need to have annotations and
details for many components.

So far what I came up with is to enter points coordinates (UTM) that
would come from a field GPS. If you have the points as a list in,
let's say, excel, it's easy to copy-paste the points into AutoCAD. The
same coordinates can also be used in EPANET, and you can copy and
paste from INP file. However, the process can be a bit cumbersome and
it would be harder to train local engineers to do hit proficiently.

I have found a small freeware called EpaCAD that allows you to import
into EPANET a pipe network designed in AutoCAD (.DXF to .INP
conversion). Works wonderfully for AutoCAD to EPANET, and it looks
like there's at least one other free software that does the same. But
the problem is that I'm looking to do the exact opposite: EPANET to
AutoCAD.

Any comments or ideas ?

Great, great, thanks. I didn't think it would be that
straightforward ! The thing is that when trying to export I was always
going with the Network option, not the map one.

In the meantime, I found a new customized version called EPANET Plus,
which allows more flexibility in the export process:

Works well too.

Theks for the last notice Epanet plus.

I believe, without fear to do a mistake, that you want to get the base map that you use to trace the net that you need to simulate. I only remember you that this is a help map only, is a scalar map for referency is not a vectorial map, then  don't keep the scale.

So can be a Fotograph or an image.

You can use the tool EpanetZ that you can find in

Hi Daniel,

I did see this EpanetZ tool before, but the problem is that the
download link is not working anymore. I contacted the webmaster some
time ago but no answer.

Do you or anyone else happen to have the downloaded file on your
computer ?

After doing some testing, I came to the conclusion that Epanet Z
cannot be used on a reliable basis. First of all, the author of the
software didn't put in any modifications since quite a few years,
which means that the code is probably outdated when it comes down to
accessing the Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, etc. satellite imagery.

Daniel, thanks a lot for your help. I guess I'm not going to worry too
much about the scale of the layout plan, as long as the pipe lengths
are ok and that you can easily locate the points with the general
features of the landscape/community.
