Hello all - I've had a working instance of ePADD v.11, but got a new computer and had to start over, and now it doesn't work.

Running ePADD 11.0.1-alpha on a MacBook Air, MacOS 14.6.1(Sonoma)

I'm importing a collection that has 40 folders and 90,000 messages. They were from aol.com email, and were transferred off the donor's computer via Thunderbird.

At import, ePADD can get through:
Convert folders
Read messages
Recognize entities

Then I get "Exception fetching/indexing emails."

This happens whether I Select All Folders or just try selecting one folder with few messages in it.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled ePADD - same result.
(I haven't upgraded to the newest version, v.11.0.2, because it isn't offered in .dmg form)

Can anyone advise?

Thanks!

Hi Sarah,

Sorry to hear that you've run into this issue! Since you have a new computer, you might want to check the version of Java that you have installed. Please make sure that you have Java version 11 or later installed. If this does not resolve the error that you're seeing let me know and we can investigate further!

Thanks,

Hey Sally - thanks so much for your reply!
I did some messing around with versions of Java - wasn't sure what I had, ended up installing/uninstalling various versions, and have ended up with this:

java version "11.0.24" 2024-07-16 LTS

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 18.9 (build 11.0.24+7-LTS-271)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 18.9 (build 11.0.24+7-LTS-271, mixed mode)

Unfortunately, I ended up with the same error: Exception fetching/indexing emails

If it is a matter pertaining to problems with how my Java is installed, I can contact my IT help on that.
But, if not that, does any solution jump out at you?

Thanks,

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Sorry to hear that you're still getting this error. It's quite a generic error, so we will need more information to try to understand what is going wrong. Could you send the epadd.log and epadd.warnings.log files from the epadd-settings folder directly to me at deba...@stanford.edu? I will take a look and may forward them to our software developer for a look if need be.

Thank you!
Sally
