Sit raised the following issues:

Apart from regex search, are there any other search features that typical email readers cannot do? (BTW, it seems with Google Apps Script, regex search of Gmail is possible - http://www.labnol.org/internet/advanced-gmail-search/21623/) On the other hand, I think Muse is not already doing everything an email reader can do, e.g., we cannot search emails with a specific word in subject (our search may return results with the word in the body, but not subject), we cannot sort messages by their sizes, etc. So, a question is whether we need to make Muse a superset of email readers. If we don't make it so, a donor may find it somewhat inconvenient/limiting to look for some specific messages that s/he could do on email readers. But is it worth the effort to make it so? Can a donor use the email reader to do some preliminary filtering at the first place? (But that may also be inconvenient for them, especially if they want to preserve their original email content/organization?)

These are very good questions. We should discuss as a wider group and also consider within the larger collaboration.
Do you, me Aimee & Daniel have any meetings coming up? Or shoudl we discuss on Thurs mtg?

I'm not sure what is meant by making Muse a superset of email readers -- can you explain more?

Thanks,
Aimee

Further reflection:

Definitely we need to be able to search:
  • terms in the subject lines in addition to the body
  • on specific words or phrases in the Appraisal, Processing & Delivery platforms.
The people most likely searching in this manner would be the creator/donor or a researcher. An archivist or curator may also use this methodology but the former would be more likely create a lexicon and run a more robust search during processing.
Do we really need to be able to sort by size???? - seems unnecessary but worth tackling at some point in user feedback during testing.

Adding the search functionality that users are used to getting in everyday email environments will help usability for all user groups (i.e. all Modules), but there may be some prioritising to do? Ability to limit search to the subject line is a must, I think.
