Dear TIC teachers, educators, and friends,
Happy 2025! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and New Year’s celebration. As your trout continue to grow, they require more maintenance. This is a great time to check and clean your filters and continue with weekly water changes (replace 20% of the tank water with de-chlorinated, cool water). Additional instructions on tank maintenance can be found here, and troubleshooting tips can be found here.
It’s hard to believe, but it’s already time to start planning your spring trout releases! In the attached newsletter, you will find information on completing the NY Trout Release Permit Application and the Spring TIC Teacher Conference on Tuesday, March 11 (register here). Additionally, NYC DEP’s Water Resources 2025 Art and Poetry Contest launched today! Make sure to submit your students’ entries by March 7.
Also attached to this email is our Trout Release Site Guide to help you identify your release location. Please keep an eye out for the February newsletter, which will have more information on trout release field trip planning. As always, please reach out anytime with questions, comments, or concerns.
All the best,
Nicki
P.S. Catskill Watershed Corporation’s Education Grant is due on Friday, February 7. If you are in NYC or the Watersheds and hoping to start a TIC program next year, please make sure to apply.
