Dear TIC teachers, educators, and friends,
Happy 2023! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and New Year’s celebration. As your trout continue to grow, they require more maintenance. This is a great time to check and clean your filters and continue with weekly water changes (replace 20% of the tank water with de-chlorinated, cool water). Additional instructions on how to change or clean your filter media can be found in the user manual.
It’s hard to believe, but it’s already time to start planning your spring trout releases! In the attached newsletter, you will find information on completing the NY Trout Release Permit Application, the Spring TIC Teacher Conference on March 15 (register today!), and NYC DEP’s Water Resources Art and Poetry Contest. If you have experienced a trout catastrophe, or have extra trout to spare, please fill out our Trout Swap Form. Finally, attached are materials for the January Lesson of the Month: Trout Adaptations Around the World.
Please keep an eye out for the February newsletter, which will have more information on trout release planning. As always, please reach out anytime with questions, comments, or concerns.
All the best,
Nicki
