Old Peoples Riding Club

Old Peoples Riding Club | A riding club for the over 21 equestrian and for all disciplines!
"... for the learning experience, the fun, the camaraderie; not the ribbon, or the glory, but for the memories ..."

Dear Members and interested guests,

Your Board thought it might be useful to report the actions taken by us during the past year. Members are often not aware of the work it takes behind the scenes to keep this organization viable and running at top speed.

We hope you have all had a good year in 2009 with your horses and your chapter members. We like to promoted fun, cohesiveness and education. At the moment we have 24 chapters across America with close to 700 members. This year we have had a new chapter open in Maine, the Maine Mountain Riders under the leadership of Mary Thacker and for 2010 there is a group in NC and another group in MD wanting to start new chapters. Look for them in 2010 on our National web site.  We wish them well and hope they have a lot of fun and prosper. Even in these dubious economic times, we remain a vibrant organization. A great deal of that has to do with the enthusiasm of your Board and you, our members.

Although there were only seven out of twenty four chapters who participated in the National Rally, reports and numbers were good. Everyone had a great time and we hope more of you will consider doing it next time if only, in part. How nice it would be to receive an award that encompassed the entire seven hundred members! What a great thing that would be -- worthy of a large pat on the back!

Other things your President and Board have accomplished this year are:
Enhanced the 2009 Year End Award packet
    Enhanced the 2009 Rally packet
Designed, hand crafted and shipped materials needed for the Stable Management test
    Ordered new rating badges
Printed and mailed ratings certificates upon request
Worked with corporate lawyers to revise our corporate bylaws incorporating enhanced legal protection for our chapters and for Nationals
Authored and published chapter policy guidance
Authored and distributed a new chapter agreement letter
Developed a new online chapter administration portal, incorporating requested enhancements
Eliminated the need for chapter membership coordinators to send membership forms to Nationals
Posted member's bios on National web page
Revised the C ratings to incorporate a higher standard
Managed insurance program for all of OPRC
Purchased ad awarded End of Year Awards
   Purchased and awarded Rally prizes
   Awarded annual community $500 award
Authored a new chapter startup manual
   Authored a chapter bylaws template

Some of this was easy and quick; some took a great deal of time but all was accomplished for the club's improvement and for your enjoyment and protection. Your President and Board feel that if they don't move forward, they will slide backwards. Something we adamantly try to avoid!

As always, we wish you the best over the holidays and for the coming year. Shiela and the Board are here for you and welcome your suggestions anytime. Never hesitate to email any of us with your thoughts, good or bad. Your involvement with OPRC on a personal level is appreciated.

Here's to a fun and challenging 2010 with OPRC. May you and your horses stay sound and healthy!

Sincerely yours,

Betsy Burnett
