I go with the flow a lot, so whatever we do, I’m game. I’m maybe a teensy bit worried about what on earth Mycroft’s role could be on the new ship (if someone says sous chef, they’re getting an umbrella shoved up where it don’t rain), but I’m sure that we’ll figure something out once the parameters are set.

The matter at hand: I want to keep Hannibal. I’m having way too much fun with him. Arguably, it might not be as much fun when the food is not people anymore, but I don’t want to drop him before I’ve had the chance to do some more with him. Though not at OOC cost, so... here’s a ramble.

There’s amnesia, but there’s no personality change. And Hannibal’s been on this ship for x years. He could be the ship’s councillor, but with people with powers I don’t really see a scenario where he could have been very effective in manipulating through therapy for all these years, or in fact, that he could have been allowed to be the ship’s councillor for these x years at all.

I think ship’s chef would be a more likely role for him. I like the idea of him being in therapy for this kink he has about eating people and maybe more (the darkness he has inside that sees beauty in death), but I don’t want to make him a Dexter-like victim of his situation.

Hannibal hasn’t always been full Devil-psycho. He’s grown into it. So maybe this would work best if he gets rebooted to a little bit psycho and gets to grows into it again. It would make for stories, certainly.

So this – rather incoherent – ramble is because I would love some thoughts about this. Do you agree, do you see something else entirely?

A bit of a ramble in return. :)

It's funny, because my aunt is the director of a food studies program at a university here in the US, and we talk a lot about food and what it means to people-- specifically, how depending on how you're raised, being in the kitchen can be like a form of therapy or psychological "safe zone". So I actually think Hannibal as ship's cook is an awesome idea, with the idea that he's gotten a reputation for being-- almost like Guinan in ST:TNG, someone to whom you can come and spill your problems, and know you'll get good advice in return.

I also like the idea that the time shift / distorted perception thing would leave him a bit fuzzy on his own psychoses. Like, almost that he'd know there was something there in his mind that he wasn't actively accessing all the time, and not realizing for awhile that it's a latent desire to murder and eat people. XD I love the idea of him growing into his darkness again. It sounds like a really cool path for you to play out with him. :)

And, IDK how this would work, but one of Xavier's degrees is in psychology, so once this all does come out in the open, there is someone else on board who has the training to help him cope (not that I see you guys threading out therapy sessions, lol, but it could be something to pursue!).

Thank you for your ramble!!

If it works in the format, I would love the haziness. It would be quite a character development, but I kinda like the idea of such a different setting for him. Same character, different path and see where it leads. :)

There would still be matters of lack of guilt, no remorse, but he's the cook, so it doesn't really come into play very often. He's not a vegetarian, but that's hardly a tell-tale for psychopathy. And he's not the average emotionless psycho anyway, so yeah. I can see that working.

Xavier might even know something before anyone else does, depending on power-choices, which would be interesting too.

It would be lovely. Until he realizes he doesn't want to cope and rather likes what he is and- end story. :D

A little arc from people are people to people are plates to people are food.

I'm all about Charles as a ship's psychologist/counselor generally, and would love to get him into Hannibal's head. I think we can play with the fuzz factor re: how much he'll know/be able to read.

But he's a pretty reasonable guy when it comes to the brain powers, and won't go around reading everyone for fun. Unless he thinks Hannibal is dangerous or unstable he's not hugely likely to go digging without permission.
